There is a Doctor and Nurse shortage in every province. - Oilhab
I can't speak to other provinces. Then again, I can't really speak to Quebec at this point either. Maybe I'm wrong. But...that can't be.... |

Those Doc unions are rough characters. - hscesq
The unions is in reference to the too much bureaucracy
The HEU, and the Nurses Unions create that bureaucracy, and good luck fighting the unions to try and get rid of some of those managerial positions to make way for more workers |

The Physcian shortage is brought up in every federal election, even though the federal government has little to do to help with the situation.
I can't think of any province that could say, damn we have too many doctors and i wish i would have to wait longer to see one. |

No. There has been a increase of admins/bosses in hospitals that get paid to stay in their offices while they could have half of the amount of bosses right now and use that money instead in services(hiring nurses, increasing the salary of Docs), which is what is really important in the Healthcare.
There would be better/ more services provided, and it wouldn't cost a (frank)ing dollar. |

Well, your probably right.

I don't know about their but over here there are more and more Import doctors from the far east, and they have problems speaking english.
Shouldn't it be acceptable for them to not have a firm handle on both official languages if you need their talents?
I mean as long as the paitent can half understand one of the official languages shouldn't that be enough? |

Certainly a big shortage here in Newfoundland and this Gov been offering top dollar to attract DR's......While not the most attractive place to live for some, Money isn't the issue here it's nothing more than not enough available according to Gov..

50% of the staff in most hospitals work in the administration
that's a 1for 1 ratio.
Ridiculous. |

As for Alberta, I'd say if they can speak english.. it's all good.
No need to be billingual if you are qualified.
What howie is pointingat is not the language.. but the debate itself scaring off anglos. |

are those bosses not Ex. physicians who have climbed the union ladder and now have retired from active duty and have been given the cushy office job by the hospital.
They may not be in the union now, but their wages are based on what they acquired when in the union.
Unions are not the sole problem, but they are a part of the problem. |

it's also a lot of work to become one, and long hours once you become one, plus not many people want to be responsible for the lives of other people.
