Hey you. I can't even pretend to know what I'm talking about when it comes to soccer. But there's hype over the guys Toronto's team signed. Are they actually good players? Theres Dafoe, some other white guy and a Brazilian goalie. I'm just curious if these guys can actually put soccer on the map in Toronto? If you had to compare these soccer guys with hockey guys, what would they be? Messi is the best in the world I think, so he's a Crosby.

I'm no soccer expert either. Dafoe comes from what's considered to be the best league in the world in the EPL, he used to be pretty good at scoring but has been struggling this season, that's why his team sold him to TFC. Most people agree that he was overpaid, but who cares since he's a DP.

Designated player. You can have three per team. Basically, you can pay those players whatever amount of money you want, and they will only count for 350k on the salary cap. The commish created that so rich teams could bring in better and more costly players.

Any league. It's a wide open market. I believe you rarely see player for player transfers, it's more teams selling a player to another team for money, or loaning said player. Player for player trades happen more often in-league.

I don't get the loaning. Is that literally just as it sounds? Why would a team loan a player to another team? What's in it for the loaning team? Or does the team borrowing have to pay a rental fee or something?

It can be for free I think. Teams loan players if they can't give said player playing time, or if he doesn't fit in their team anymore.The Impact loaned a player to a Danish team last season because they couldn't find playing time for him and still wanted him to develop.

Basically you loan a player when you want to get rid of him.
