You'd be willing to give up MacDonald?
- ehabs9

I'll drive him to the airport. Heck, I'll drive him to Anaheim.

Yearly "UFA d man who comes out of nowhere suddenly playing big minutes."

People also hype up him leading the league in blocks but I'd like to point out Chris Butler is also among the league leaders in blocks and he completely blows.

Okay so he's like Jan Hejda , boring to watch but chews up minutes, doubt the ducks are looking for that , they have plenty of those kind of guys on their roster.

I could care less where the guy signs after the Islanders trade him. If it was soo well known he wanted to go to Mn, I would have not even traded for the guy. It is on Snow to get a good deal and if he cannot, he will have to deal with it.
- ses111

Actually, WE'LL have to deal with it.

Garth seems to have immunity from all mistakes and non-moves he makes.
Never seems too upset about anything either which makes me think he really doesn't give a sh!t about this team. Only covering his own ass with excuses and keeping his job while pulling the strings of the worst coach in the NHL...perhaps AHL as well.

He only leads the league in blocked shots because the concept of clearing the puck is foreign to him and he's a turn over machine.

I cannot foresee Anaheim moving Gibson, unless the package is unbelievable. Vanek/MacDonald is not a deal that would warrant giving up one of the top goalie prospects.

He doesn't chew up minutes....they chew him up.

He should be a #4 guy but is thrown to the wolves and has to play tough minutes and not very well. But he's asking 5 mill per year for multiple years? That's comical.

MacDonald has been playing 25+mins for a couple of years now and is always among the top shot blockers in the league. MacDonald on a team with a deeper defense will be better, he gets exposed because he plays at a top-pair dman for the Isles when he is probably a low-3 or 4 defenseman at best. Is a good passer and has a good shot but doesnt hit the net enough.

People say he is worth a 1st...
I highly doubt that. If the Isles could get a 2nd, id be pleasantly suprised.

- Bags502

He will get a 1st all day long.

Logs a lot of minutes... tops in the league in block shots.

Nice addition to any playoff team.

Isles fans don't like him because he has too much responsibility, and tries to hard to make a play... makes a lot of mistakes.

But in a lesser role he would succeed.

I'm not sure about the 5 million price tag that he wants. 4 million seems like a pretty good deal for him.

Isles might bite the bullet and split the cost at 4.5 million.

They need to build the defence... not keep losing pieces.

He will get a 1st all day long. Crossing my fingers.

Logs a lot of minutes... tops in the league in block shots. Yes.

Nice addition to any playoff team. Depending on the teams defensive depth.

Isles fans don't like him because he has too much responsibility, and tries to hard to make a play... makes a lot of mistakes. Oh yes.

But in a lesser role he would succeed. Absolutely.

I'm not sure about the 5 million price tag that he wants. 4 million seems like a pretty good deal for him. 4 would be a great deal for him, but not for the Isles.

Isles might bite the bullet and split the cost at 4.5 million. They shouldnt. Id go 3 tops.

They need to build the defence... not keep losing pieces. They can lose him with who they have in the system.

Yes, that is why the Isles have to trade him... Isles offered him more then he is worth but he thinks he will get 5. He might but the team that does give him that will regret it.

Too bad nobody wants to play in Buffalo... Sabres and Bills will never win a championship!!!
- jimmc7722

Well given a choice, not many players would want to play for a team going through a rebuild...kind of common sense.

Although since you brought it up, probably the only scenario a player would despise even more is playing on a team which consistently misses the playoffs and is NOT going through a full rebuild phase, so good luck with missing the playoffs for the 6th time in the past 7 seasons.

So.. Kings trade Czarnick to MTL for Qualier. Didn't know Gagner changed his name and moved to the AHL level for Montreal. Good work, Eklund.

Let's play true or false.

The LA Kings have Kopitar, Carter, Richards, and Stoll down the middle, but think adding Sam Gagner is the missing piece.

Slight adjustment...

To ANA: LW Thomas Vanek and D Andrew MacDonald
To NYI: G John Gibson, D Luca Sbisa, and ANA 2nd Round Pick

I think the Isles would have to probably eat some of Vanek's salary for the rest of the year to make the cap work...

- Bags502

Fasth, 1st rounder, and Sbisa/Allen
Anderson, a lower pick, and Sbisa.

I can't see a GM that prides himself on his prospects give up on arguably the best up and coming goalie for rentals.

I said this two days ago and I still think it makes sense for all teams involved:

To ANA: Thomas Vanek and Andrew MacDonald
To NYI: G John Gibson, OTT 1st Round Pick, ANA 2nd Round Pick, Prospect

- [email protected]

That's actually not to bad but you'll need to add more I think for the islanders. Another roster player. Look what pominville got last year(I know he still had another year on his contract but they got the goalie prospect and another prospect plus the picks for pomer.
Macdonald has value too..
It's a good start. But I think they would def need more

The only way this makes sense is if it is a cap dump from LA and they are trading Center for Center. The only Dman that helps Edm is Doughty and Gagner is not even close to that price tag. Like Voynov and Muzzin all you want but Edm is in the market for someone better. They NEED a 1-2 and those two aren't it.

This does make sense if this is a play to get Vanek. Realistically LA would be a better team if they parted with Carter or Richards for Gagner and other components. Put him on the third pairing and locked up Vanek. If they got Edmonton to keep some of Gagner's salary like they are apparently looking for. As much as LA fans like Richards and Carter, that is a lot of money for your third line center and it is being wasted as Richards isn't getting the minutes he could be. Vanek is Vanek, he is paid a lot but in terms of premium wingers, there are few like him and none like him on the market.

I could see the thought process. I think if it is Carter's name on the table, then EDMs number one pick might be on the table as well, which might be the key to acquiring Vanek. In the end, the trade is essentially a pick that is top 3 overall and I imagine a couple prospects going to NYI, LA gets Gagner at a reduced Salary and Vanek and Edmonton gets Carter.

Only thing that makes sense. Although I still don't see it happening.

so what, edmonton and la make out like bandits and the Isles take it in the ass? Yeah seems realistic.

kings arent' going to trade what effectively is their best source of goalscoring in any deal. and if you deal carter, you might as well deal richards too, and i dont see lombardi doing either.
