This is a dream. Way to much going to Islanders. Maybe Gibson and OTT 1st, but even that might be too much. Vanek and AMac are rentals.

MacDonald alone is already worth a first round pick for any team looking to add a defenseman. As it is, Snow already turned down a sizeable offer for MacDonald.

Gonna be too expensive, lots of good young D in the pipeline. They should definitely trade him unless he's signing with them for less than 4.5 mill
- mochoson

I heard AMac turned down a 4yr/16mil deal. And thank god he did.

Please explain why this is a terrible deal for Anaheim? The goal is to win the Stanley Cup, is it not? This deal immediately adds a top-line winger to their already great offensive team, and you add the leading shotblocker in the league to their second-pairing.

You have to give up some to get, and I think that both teams get what they need out of this kind of deal. With Andersen, Fasth, and Hiller, why wouldn't they be willing to give up Gibson?

- [email protected]

I think the rationale would go that they're trading two good prospects, a 2nd and a top 10 pick for two rentals who have gone on the record stating their intention to test FA.

Terrible deal for Anaheim
- Iggysbff

Take out the Ducks 2nd rounder and swap Gibson for one of Bobkov or Andersen and it's not so bad.

But they don't retain either after the year is through, and they're forking over 2 picks, a prospect, and probably the best goalie prospect there is at the moment (arguably).

McKenzie has already stated it's Clifford+.
- Ersberg

The Ducks would have a chance to keep Vanek. Cap going up helps.

I said this two days ago and I still think it makes sense for all teams involved:

To ANA: Thomas Vanek and Andrew MacDonald
To NYI: G John Gibson, OTT 1st Round Pick, ANA 2nd Round Pick, Prospect

- [email protected]

These guys are more than likely RENTALS, so that ain't gonna happen. Ducks won't trade Gibson. Fasth is close so I could see Andersen moving. I could also see moving Anaheim's first pick, too.

He'll get 4.5-5 on the market.

As a Flyers fan, I would have happily signed him to 4yrs/16 mil. I can, however, see why the Islanders haven't offered more. That's the absolute max he'd get from me if I was a GM.

If he consistently put up 30ish points, then 5 mil is more reasonable.

HaHaHa. ..this is funny becuase it was only a few months ago that Islander fans thought Sabres fans were ridiculous for what they thought a Vanek trade was worth.

MacDonald is essentially worth the Prospect or 2nd Round pick so that means you are asking Gibson, a 1st Round pick, AND a 2nd Round or Prospect oh the irony!

We have no idea what "sizable" means. I do agree that taking back some salary will help drive the price up. And I think the Isles have to in order to stay above the Cap.

No its still bad. Both are intent on testing the UFA market and both turned down contracts from the Isles that were more than either is worth. Anaheim would be giving up everything for 2 guys that are 80% likely to not be there beyond this season.

Gagner can score, he's just struggling after coming back from that broken jaw. On a good team like LA he could be pretty good, and LA can't score goals for the life of them.

But I stil get the feeling all Eklund is doing here is taking tweets from other people, writing a quick paragraph blog and keeping it so vague that it sounds like it's coming from him. I could have written this same blog with my "sources", and by sources I mean twitter.

Not everything works out the way you want it. Playing for the Ducks is not such a bad thing. Great weather and very good team.

Keep telling yourself that.

Heatley Contract up, Sing Vanek to $7MM a year. save $500,000.

I could care less where the guy signs after the Islanders trade him. If it was soo well known he wanted to go to Mn, I would have not even traded for the guy. It is on Snow to get a good deal and if he cannot, he will have to deal with it.

We need another underachieving center like Justin Bieber needs to wax his genitals!!

but this is a Lombardi maneuver all the way, my guess is it will be Clifford and Vey going or Clifford and Muffin. and we will get Gags... uhg this is a horrible deal, absolutely fills zero of our needs so that is why I am guessing it will be the actual deal that happens.

So tired of trading with Edmonton. we always get the $hit end of the stick. BTW Clifford will most likely pull a Sydor and become an all star once he is traded.

Is there any other team in the league willing to trade with us?

specter is a douche. he spent the entire canucks-oilers game the other week talking about how we're not big enough and don't have enough depth beyond hall, ebs etc.
true insider/expert knowledge

it's more fun to pretend that we're all expecting doughty back so the haters can say haha I told u so..derp.
but we're not.

one of those big plugger forwards that give us some tools we don't have, plus a decent add in seems reasonable if there's a deal in place

He's never had a 50 point season because he plays on the (frank)ing Oilers.

He doesn't have the puck enough to score 50 points a season.

You watch out for those Flames.... they jammed us out of Monahan last year, they'll jam you out of Reinhart, somehow.

Cripes, if we would have been a tinsy bit more terrible last year, we wouldn't even be going through all this Gagner drama.

Maybe that's why Ralph got bagged?

- unkydav

Naw, we're going to jam you again with Ekblad
