I said this two days ago and I still think it makes sense for all teams involved:
To ANA: Thomas Vanek and Andrew MacDonald
To NYI: G John Gibson, OTT 1st Round Pick, ANA 2nd Round Pick, Prospect - [email protected]
they would be pretty close, just not sure how the cap would look for both teams after this...ana too high and nyi too low maybe

He looks like Weber with better passing and feet, little less of a shot. I don't see how anyone could pass up on him, regardless of team needs |

I think that's more than fair both ways. NHL 14 just accepted it. - Panthers88
Hahaha that is usually an excellent barometer of whether a deal would occur in real life. In all seriousness, it just makes sense for both teams. The Islanders defensive prospects will be maturing in the next 1 to 2 years, and having a solid goaltender back there to develop alongside them in Gibson (who is the top goalie prospect in the league) wouldn't hurt. I just don't envision the Islanders landing a player such as Miller or Hiller in the offseason when so many teams will be opening up their checkbooks for both those guys. |

Gonna be too expensive, lots of good young D in the pipeline. They should definitely trade him unless he's signing with them for less than 4.5 mill |

If Anaheim wants to move John Gibson Vanek will be a Duck by Friday, isles will have to retain some salary or take some one back with at most a year left on the deal.
These deadline deals are always a risk for a big splash player, Anaheim is a legit cup contender and if they think add TV will put them over the top that's a risk you have to take. If you win a cup it's all worth it. - guno89
I would have to agree that if Vanek goes to the Ducks a Goalie better be coming back. The Ducks have 4 potential starting goalies. Either Gibson or Andersen should go to the Isles. Next year if they don't resign Hiller then whoever they don't trade can compete with Fasth for the starting spot. Plus, the Ducks look even scarier with Vanek on the wing. |

He allegedly turned down a 4yr 16MM offer from the NYI. So they have no choice at the moment. |

Yes, he is overvalued. While he leads in blocked shots, he is not reliable in his own end. He tends to be under-average in terms of his first pass out of the zone, and he gets out-worked along the boards quite frequently. That being said, if he would have accepted $4 million per year for 4 years (Snow's best offer thus far), I would have kept him happily. He will make a nice second-pairing defenseman for a contending team. |

Gagner is nothing more than a guy who shoots his load in a two-week stretch and then goes silent for five months. I don't see how he helps the Kings at all. - Oneonta Penguin
When you read an uninformed opinion someone has about Chris Kunitz, do you ever stop and wonder whether you're doing the exact same thing about other team's players?
For the record, I don't see how Gagner fits into the King's lineup either. |

Isles can hold back some salary under the new CBA, and I'm sure that is something they could handle if a prospect such as Gibson was coming back. The more salary that the Isles hold, the better the prospect Anaheim would have to give up. |

Forgot he was at the end of his contract. Not sure I'd give up quite that much if I were Anaheim then. But I'd work along those lines. |

How much salary is Pittsburgh retaining for the overpaid injury prone product of playing with Sid and Geno? - As_I_See_It
I'm not talking about Matt Niskanen, I'm talking about Kris Letang.

Depending on what happens with the NYI and the pick they are willing to give the Sabres, they could end up with 1 and 2 this year. |

u are quickly proving to be one the dumbest posters on the boards
nurse-first round
klefbom-first round
so in terms of our lottery picks;
no gm in their right mind takes any dman before hall. that hasn't changed 3 years on.
or maybe ur suggesting Larsson over nuge??
the only one we could make a case for is murray over yaks.
either way, he was out all of last year and wouldn't be making much difference for this team right now.
long term is still up in the air
terribly offbase post - hugefemale dog77
Well put.
As an organization, we've never had a legitimate opportunity to draft a franchise ("pronger type", "doughty type") defence man in the three years we had the first overall pick. There just wasn't one there worth reaching for. The 2008 draft on the other hand, had potentially 3 of them from picks 2 through 4. This past draft with Seth Jones (you could argue for or against Nurse) was the first time where that type of defenceman was within our range.
This years draft is another opportunity with Ekblad, if we choose to go that direction. |

This is a dream. Way to much going to Islanders. Maybe Gibson and OTT 1st, but even that might be too much. Vanek and AMac are rentals. |

Terrible deal for Anaheim - Iggysbff
Please explain why this is a terrible deal for Anaheim? The goal is to win the Stanley Cup, is it not? This deal immediately adds a top-line winger to their already great offensive team, and you add the leading shotblocker in the league to their second-pairing.
You have to give up some to get, and I think that both teams get what they need out of this kind of deal. With Andersen, Fasth, and Hiller, why wouldn't they be willing to give up Gibson? |
