Nah, people like the music they like. Some of us are more refined in our tastes, is all.

People tend to listen to the music they liked when they were in that 14 - 25 YO time frame.

So, for me, I still like Springsteen, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana and own way too many flannel shirts.

- johndewar

I like them too. And I have 3 flannel shirts (1 in circulation,1 work shirt, and 1 oil rag). But you don't see many 40-year-olds going, "Yeah man, Nirvana, they're cool like what all of the young people are listening to now." It just seems that, whenever I hear someone talking about U2 or Rush, it's someone in their 40s or older who tries to equate it to "today's" music, thereby making them in the scene with all the new stuff.

I listened to nothing (NOTHING) but punk rock/ska/hardcore between 14-19, and treated everything else as radio-friendly crap. I missed a lot of good stuff. But I still don't like Weezer.

I don't know much about Wilson as a player, I only comment on his blogs.

They made a song name Tom Sawyer... Really. How hip.

I go back to listening to bands who singers dont sound like they have thier balls crushed in a vise grip. Yea I said it... He sounds like a freaking girl....

Rush does suck. They put out a handful of okay songs in the 80s. I see them the same way I see U2. They're a band people in the late 30s/40s use as a way of saying, "See, I'm hip, I like that crazy rock and roll music just like all the kids."
- jmatchett383

Rush are an extremely talented group, ask musicians about em, most are fans. Also most of their best stuff never gets played on the radio. Their recent album, Clockwork Angels, is some of the best stuff theyve ever done.

Yeah, I agree with you. That's silly.

I'm not thinking about today's music when I listen to Pearl Jam, for example.

I'm probably thinking about some time in college when I hooked up and didn't have to pay bills or worry if my kid got their homework done or something.

Eh, I liked a little bit. Old MMB, Skankin' Pickle, Less Than Jake...I never really put them in the same vein as punk/hardcore, just that they sometimes played the same shows. And the only political message most ska bands went for was racial unity.

Dream Theater is probably the most talent ever assembled in one group. And you know what? They sound awful, because they can't write more than 5-6 halfway decent songs. I don't care how talented you are at playing an instrument if you can't write good music to back it up.

And I have heard the new Rush album. It's like the old Rush trying to sound like "newer" music (which blows) and ends up being a worse version of the old Rush.

Gotta use something. Most chose lyrical content over the trumpet though.
