Claude Julien and Peter Chiarelli's heads will explode if that happens

No chance he makes it with those two there, especially Chiarelli being in on the decision process.:

Add him and trade him for Eriksson to team Sweden

I believe he's played wing before, could be wrong though. Guy is a gamer and is one of the top 12 Canadian forwards in the NHL IMO.

The Penguins are signing EVERYONE! I heard they're in on Moulson too! The rest of the league should just give up. There won't be enough top 6 players left at this rate!

Is he a better winger than St. Louis though?

Neal is a fine player but there are multiple better options, g, Taylor Hall, jumbo joe, and Eric staal would all make the team over Neal I believe
- Girouxsalem90

Doesn't Neal have the most goals other than Ovi in the last 3 years or something? Don't remember the stat but he's one of the best goal scorers in the league. Have to replace a sniper with a sniper.

IMO it should be Neal or G, Hall is an interesting pick but I doubt he's even in the conversation. Jumbo's game is tailored for small ice, doesn't really fit the team mold. E. Staal wouldn't fit the top 6 and we have better players in the bottom 6 than him.

Fair point.

As for the Marleau over Couture thing. I think his skating ability (or lacke thereof) did him in. Marleau's combination of size and speed was probably something Canada really wanted.

- Sabresfan-365

Yeah that's the only realistic reasoning could see behind it. That and Marleau's experience. I still think Couture would add more to the roster than Marleau will, but we'll never know.

Better than Kunitz IMO

MSL and Giroux should both be on the team.

thats my rational

its hard enough to get chemistry with players you never play with in a short tourny like this
add in playing out of position, id take a slightly worse player at this natural position

I remember hearing somewhere that if Stamkos doesn't go Canada can add up to 2 forward replacements. Better be those two if they go that route.

Well, I'd say chemistry is nice, but there are no guarantees. Look at Seabrook and Keith in 2010. They didn't play well until they were split up.

Good. He isn't a machine no matter how good at hockey he is. Let him heal. His long term well being for the Bolts is more important than a 3 week Olympic stint.

THis x 1000

ive heard the chemistry thing so much.

seabrook was picked because of keith. by the medal round they realized their mistake, moved keith with doughty and cut brents ice time way down.
keith was dominant at that point

With the caveat that I feel bad for him. He wanted and deserved the chance to play for Canada but bad luck cost him that chance

Sharp is so versatile though so he deserved it. Giroux and MSL are better than those other 3.

May I introduce Taylor Hall

In all seriousness, though, it should St. Louis.

They will have approximately 17.5M in cap space
- MTL1[including pronger off the books] to sign 8 guys for an average of approximately 2.2M per roster spot

But, look at the spots of those specific 8 guys. No way are you close to 2.2M for these roles - it's closer to 1M. With the exception of one stud line 1 defenseman. Which you can spend 8M on... So, defense would look like; Bobby Orr's clone, Streit, Coburn, Schenn (or replacement), Grossmann, Gustafsson, (Pronger), and a Rookie. If Cloning technology hasn't advance that far... Talk Timo for a one year deal (he's not looking that old yet).

Forwards:
Downie's replacement - Laughton (rookie salary). save 1.6M
Hall sign for <1M
Raffl sign for <1M

Backup Goalie - <1M

Defense: The flyers are carrying 9 defenseman. They only need 7 (plus pronger)
Gustafsson sign for <1.5M
Minus Timo, Mezaros, Gill - current salaries 10.7M

Defense is the biggest issue.

Why? Because everyone feels bad for him?

There are better options. If they take MSL it's 100% because of media and politics, which is bullpoop.

MSL should have made the roster over some other players maybe, but he's not the best replacement for Stamkos.

I think it really depends on if management is looking to replace Stamkos with another goal scorer. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Neal gets the nod for that reason.

If it's between MSL and Giroux, I'll take MSL.
