LA fans say Doughty is going nowhere. EDM fans say Hall is going nowhere. And yet each team has a glaring need for what the other one has. They don't happen a lot but sometimes the "going nowheres" cancel each other out. |

I think Voynov is a piece they would move. They could plug Martinez in, and they have a couple of sold D prospects down in Manchester that are currently being "blocked"
Lombardi is not a rental kind of GM, if he makes a trade mid season he will want the guy locked up for at least a year or 2. - fsanford
But the issue with that is the Oilers are moving Eberle in a deal for a guy that isn't a true top pairing Dman. He'd by all means help the blueline, but I question how big of a positive impact he'd have in both a lesser system and with no one of Doughty's caliber sheltering him. |

Frattin will be one of the pieces coming back. The Eakins/Marlie factor, the fact that he's a fast skater, and the fact that the oil love reclamation projects.
Frattin, Muzzin, King, Gagner, Picks, Salary retention. Something along those lines. |

I feel like moreso than stubbornness, Hall is an integral part of whatever success the Oilers have and Doughty is an integral part of the kings success.
Some teams have amazing goalies which St Lou could use, and they could use Backes, but that trade won't happen not because the GMs are ignoring the glaring need but because the need to fill the hole isn't as great as the need to keep what it'll cost. |

Hall isn't going anywhere, that's confirmed by everyone who uses common sense. He's hovering around 10th in scoring (havent checked stats lately), if he didn't play on the Oilers he would have been more of an Olympic consideration, and he will be the Captain in a couple years after Ference's contract is up. He's not going anywhere. |

That's not a bad trade for Calgary but I doubt they give up their first without getting another stud in that deal. |

Oilers should trade one of the young guns (maybe Eberle) and get some real good D. Either from kings or Coyotes. |

It's not surprising Vanek doesn't want to play for a dysfunctional organization, starting with a meddling owner, a GM who's yet to prove anything other than he can draft first overall fairly well and a coach who shouldn't be coaching in the NHL. - LeftCoaster

What a disaster that Moulson/Vanek trade is turning out to be for them. It's only funny because 95% of us saw it coming. - 1979AD

I'm a Garth supporter...he stuck to his plan and has done everything to build this team up. Just because we didn't turn it around in 5 years doesn't mean this failing to me.
We have THREE first round picks who haven't even been given a chance to play in the NHL yet as they hone their game PLUS Anders Lee.
The NY Islanders are a lot closer to playoff regularity than most people give them credit for. With the emergence of Strome, Reinhart, Pulock, and Lee over the next few years, we will have a fantastic top-6 and a very strong defense corps.
You have to look at a few other players than are playing exceptionally well and may be a diamond in the rough - Polkka, Pedan, and Mayfield.
EVERY SINGLE NAME ABOVE was drafted by Garth.
He has done what he could do with the resources he has. I give him credit for going out and getting Vanek. He knew JT needed a 1st line winger and gave up some picks for the chance to be able to sign him. We can still recoup a nice return for Vanek to even out the playing field. Honestly, WE DONT NEED 1st ROUND PICKS ANYMORE. I applaud Garth for his efforts.
I know I'm the outlier, but I support Garth and what he's done. If he didn't have cap restrictions and a team with a bad stigma then I think things would be a bit different for him at this point. |
