Well now you won't have either Moulson or Vanek. Hopefully Garth can get back a 1st+ for Vanek.

Moulson and Snow may kiss and make up!!!

To paraphrse:

Do nothing to your roster because you're too afraid it will hurt your team.

Newsflash: The team is already hurt, matter of fact they've been on life support for the past for seasons...but hey let's not make any rash changes that might alter their trajectory.

- nikel

Well the fact of the matter is that since June we've gotten rid of

Horcoff
Paajarvi
Omark
Dubnyk
Labarbera
Smid

and added
Perron
Gordon
Ference
Larsen
Belov
Bryzgalov
Hendricks
Fraser
Scrivens

Not substantial moves, but no team could be further from "standing pat" in terms of changing their roster.

hindsight is 20/20

he can recoup some of the losses...again, was this ideal for the isles? no. does it mean anything significant for the future growth of the team? no.

isles will be fine.

goalie, coach, dman = playoffs next year.

I didnt see this before i posted. Thank you.

There is no realistic trade where we get better by moving hall.

I bet his roster on nhl 14 gets changed weekly and hasnt skipped a beat.

I didn't think we were talking about the Isles needs... I thought it was the Vanek trade...

Yes the Isles biggest issue is defence.

But the trade was made before Vis, and Strait got hurt. Donovan didn't live up to his potential. Only because he was trying to play top 4 minutes... he wasn't ready.

That's part of the Isles problem... no top 4 defencemen.

Hamonic, and Vis are close.

de Haan, Donavan, Amac, etc... either needed time or a lesser role.

- jimmc7722

So you are ok with Snow giving up big assets to make a trade for a player that doesn't fill your team's biggest needs yet at the same time your argument FOR making the trade is sometimes a GM needs to take a risk? Do you see the fallacy in that thought process? If a team is going to make a big deal to make a playoff push shouldn't that big deal be to address the teams' biggest weakness which in turn would give the team the biggest improvement. Instead Snow gives up big assets to marginally improve the team while doing nothing to address the teams' biggest weakness and thus put the team in the best position to make a playoff push/run which was the supposed reasoning for making the deal in the first place

What was wrong with Moulson though? He was a 30 goal scorer with Tavares? Vanek is a 30-40 goal guy, so is the extra handful of goals really worth the 1st, 2nd and extra 2+ million in cap space it would likely cost to re-sign Vanek over Moulson?

Wouldn't you rather have the Isles trade those assets for some help on the blueline and/or even for a legit goalie?

- Nucker101

Exactly what I've been arguing. Vanek didn't help the Isles address their biggest need, yet by trading for Vanek the Isles severely limited their ability to make a different deal to address their biggest need(s). And in spite of this Isles fans want to defend the deal saying it was a necessary risk to help push the team towards the playoffs. Newsflash, the best way to push your team to the playoffs is by improving your team the most. Not addressing your weakest parts and marginally improving somewhere else is NOT the way to the promised land

Sam Gagne to LA does make sense. Wonder who LA is offering up.

How does a worse Center than the top two LA already has make any sense. He cant play LW. Kings need a LW. I actually do like Gagner. I only see him being an option if the Kings were swapping RW's.

Hemsky makes more sense since he does play both wings. But even then. The return on Hemsky cant be to high. Id think maybe Amart or Frattin. Maybe both. Who knows.

Please Wings don't go after Vanek.
I always thought the Wings should look at Sam Gagner. Solid second line right handed winger that would fir well in Detroit's system. Too bad that has to be who the Kings want.

I heard a report that Gagner would be playing C in LA, but it really doesn't make sense. As a W he's likely on par or better than Hemsky at this point, but to a certain extent it's apples and oranges.

Similar skillset to Stephen Weiss, so I feel like you guys already made your choice there.

If the Clifford-Gagner deal goes through as reported, it will become a litmus test for homers: anyone who thinks that deal is even a remotely good one for the Oil is drinking the koolaid.

I agree it isnt a great deal for EDM. Its def a better deal for LA. But it comes down to where does Gagner fit. From the Oilers perspective if this deal happened, its prolly something that leads to another deal.

One other thing that could make sense of this, is if they moved Richards to LW and ran Gagner at center with him. Which has happened.

yeah Gagner doesn't seem to fit on LA with the centres as is.

It seems like an odd move from LA's perspective too. If they were going for pure flash, you'd figure they'd make a run for a guy like Erat.

Erat does fit the mold of Kings hockey. While Gagner is an odd choice. It does make sense to try and spark some offense. Anything could happen. It def seems to be an odd trade for both teams. However, If the deal is Clifford and Martinez and maybe some sort of pick. Im on board. But if its Edm wanting Toffoli, Vey or Forbert. Im immediately turned off.
