EDM would have to give more... Voynov was a ROCK for them in the playoffs last year and is a proven NHL ready guy... Yak could be a bust.
- JVince11

Yeah that was for starters. But Voynov is exactly the guy EDM needs and they can afford to give up Yak IMO. Kinda reminds me of Grigorenko but the Sabres won't even let the kid play. I can see yak going back to Russia if he gets frustrated enough to where he doesn't live up to expectations in the next year or 2.

I heard this the other day

MTL - EDM 1st - Yakupov +
EDM - Subban -

MTL - CGY 1st - Monahan +
CGY - Price

Mtl takes 2 of the top picks this year and then MTL signs Halak as a stop gap for a couple of years for when Fucale is ready

- MTL1

Don't take this the wrong way but shut the fck up!

And at the point Edmonton is having to add to a former 1st overall 100 games into his career for a guy that's very promising but still not an established top pairing guy, you have to wonder whether it's the right time to make such a move.

Don't get me wrong I like Voynov but adding to Yakupov is not maximizing our assets at this juncture.

What the (frank). How is yak a bust? It's called a sophomore slump. It happens. He will be a monster in this league soon enough. With us or someone else.

I wouldn't count Detroit out... Just a big hunch of mine... Vanek in Detroit makes sense.
- JVince11

Yep, if Detroit ponies up and trades for him, he may just end up staying there.

Curiously though, I just looked at Ek's rumor chart... He's moved Minnesota to the front runnner at 25%. I really can't see Minnesota giving up anything to get him if they're so sure he wants to come here in the off season... Unless they think they can actually make a run at the cup this season yet. I don't think so. I don't think they're quite ready yet, even with Vanek.

I don't see a huge KHL threat for Yakupov actually.

And it's not really lending credence to the development process to expect him to be at his best within the next 2 years.

Hall is in year 4 and I would be surprised if this is his best.

this is why it isnt a disaster...

moulson sucks and will not get the same return that vanek will. having said that, the isles knew moulson wasnt going to resign for the amount they would pay OR they just didnt want to resign him.

so they traded away him and 1st and 2nd...1st round pick will hopefully be this years pick in one of the worst draft classes.

they traded for vanek who is a top 20 player in the league; everyone knows the isles have a hard time signing big time names but they DO have experience winning players over so garth took the risk and tried winning him over..so far, it doesnt look pretty. (lets not forget, although its a long shot, vanek can STILL resign come july 1)

being that vanek is a better player than moulson, id say that all garth has to do is get back the equivalent of a 1st round pick and he is back to where he was before the trade...all said and told, it was a risk that didnt work out, disaster??? thats a bit much.

- LetsGoIsles

False:

He isn't even in the top 20 in points, he doesn't back check and is an awful skater. He doesn't kill penalties and isn't a center. He is not a top 20 player. Top 50 sure but not a top 20.

Garth gave up Moulson (a 30 goal scorer in himself) granted he isn't as good as Vanek but still a good player a first round pick AND a second round pick. Vanek not resigning there pretty much makes either years pick (2014 or 2015) a top 10 pick. Hate to break it to you but without goaltending and D the Islanders are going to be bad again.

If Moulson gets traded he brings Buffalo another first plus. Vanek will get a first as well plus but you wont get back a player even close to Moulson. So Garth basically traded 2 firsts and a second for a 17-30 first round pick. Sorry it is a disaster. If Vanek would have resigned it would have been worth it but he isn't so therefore its a disaster

He could be.
But lets not forget he les rooks in goals and points last year.
And it's funny how yaks gets mentioned as a bust while huberdeau and galchenyuk dont

Yaks-21pts
Huberdeau-22pts
Galchenyuk -23pts

Doubt there's a deal to be made there. Voynov is certainly more valuable at present. While yaks potential is so high. Neither party would want to add id wager

What are you hearing up there in terms of Minnesota's interest in Miller??

I've heard Koivu's name being tossed out there but not by a solid source.

Hall is a great player.. I love his two way play and how dedicated he plays on every shift...

Yak is working through stuff no doubt but there is a reason why he is in the doghouse.

same reason why I see Grigorenko being traded this year actually.

Wouldnt surprise me about Koivu being shopped. I think they have looked like a better team with him out of the line up

I think conventional wisdom on 'prime years' has moved back a couple years.
Especially with youth being the new black..

But i think 24-31 are a players prime years

Yakupov had 3 points in his first 16 games and that was BRUTAL. Since then, I don't have too too many complaints.

Well I listened to a local sports radio broadcast with Lou Nanne yesterday and he was asked about the speculation on Miller coming to Minnesota and his reactionary quote was " that's ludicrous if you ask me".

Lou is about the most credible source in Minnesota hockey/sports. So based on his comments, I'd say rumors are just rumors in regards to Miller.

He would be the 1C that Buffalo has longed for too....

I was at the Buffalo-Colorado game this past Saturday.. man does that team look good even without Stastny and Tanguay.. MacK is a future superstar of this league.. easily be a 100 point guy for numerous seasons in his career.

I can see them letting stastny walk or trade him this year with Duch, ROR, MacK, Talbot, and Mitchall all able to play the pivot. No need in tying up 5+M in him right now.
