Open up the wallet and pay a guy like Jokinen a heavy one year deal to fill in. - Lahey
Wouldn't mind them doing that with a vet Dman too.

I can't get over the love for Gagner that people are displaying here. What has he done for the Oilers in his career? Absolutely nothing, but take up salary and put up 40 pt seasons. He's soft in the D zone and doesn't go into the corners... If MacT can get anything of use (i.e. 2C or shutdown D-Man) for him straight up or in a package he should take it. |

Jokinen Turning 36 next season and is already pretty average-below average against other team's 3rd lines.
Although I can't bring myself to think of a more realistic option |

I dont have homer glasses on, Idiot
I said give him a shot... I didnt say once that he IS, without question, a top 6 option. Shut up.
Arco was never drafted so we shouldnt have given him a shot at all... I mean, all he did was produce a point per game clip in AHL. But that doesn't sound like anyone we were previously discussing. Youre so god damn annoying. - JShack
You're annoyed because you cant back up your argument. I have....sorry that's frustrating for you... |

Yeah for God's sake he's 29 years old now, he's making 6 million dollars a year and he's never so much as considered dropping the gloves to protect his teammates. He's shown absolutely no improvement in his game whatsoever, and MacT is crazy to turn down offers for Martin Hanzal and Brent Seabrook for Gagner, as he's done week in and week out for the past year and a half. |

The oilers are FILLED with character guys that we've picked up out of thin air. Were dead last in the west. IF gags is moved, bring him up and see what he has. If it doesn't work, were no worse for ware... still dead last - JShack
If it helps at all, I'm on your side in this debate. If (and let me emphasize "IF") Gagner gets traded, I'm all for giving Lander some games up in the top-6 to see what he can do. |

You backed it up how? All youve done is bring up soft, niche players that didn't work out. (Schremp and Omark) None of which are comparable to Lander. Not one. |

I see a lot of people claiming Lander's done (frank) all in the NHL. This isn't wrong, but think back at who his most common linemates have been throughout his NHL career. He's been forced to play with such stalwarts as Jesse Joensuu, Lennart Petrell, Luke Gazdic, and Ben Eager! Haven't we all agreed that these players suck horse sh!t? Below NHL-quality? Show me a player that can produce with those linemates and I will personally send the Queen of (frank)ing England to your front door.
In the event of a Gagner trade, Lander has done more than enough to gain consideration for a tryout in that slot. In this scenario, MacT and Eakins would be folly to not give both Arcobello and Lander equal chances at taking that spot. |

Lander was given time earlier this year when RNH and Gags were both out. Didn't produce results.
He has been up with the Oilers numerous times and has never made an impact. To say he hasn't had a chance is dead wrong. |

You're constructing some imaginary narrative where everyone thinks Gagner is amazing, and MacT is turning down huge offers for him. Neither is the case whatsoever. |

You do realize he's played in the NHL for 7 seasons now and has never cracked 50 pts? You do realize he's making almost $5M/season right now?
Who cares if he drops the mitts and tries to "protect his teammates"? He's not paid to fight, he's paid to score.
Are you trying to say that MacT isn't getting offers on Gagner? Why do you think that is? Likely because (as I said) he doesn't contribute anything... |

MPS?
Lander has had multiple shots with the Oilers. What did he do with them?
2011-12 56 games 6 points
2012-13 11 games 1 point
2013-14 12 games 0 points (and that was with RNH and Gagner out)
And its not like Lander is a giant. He's barely noticeably bigger than Gags. |

No I didn't realize how long Gagner has been playing, nor how much he was making. |

I hope not.
Is there a point in replacing Gagner with a player that brings similar strengths and weaknesses to the table (Arco, drafted centre, signing Legwand?)
There's no reason to replace him for the sake of replacing him, and I'll believe we get a decent return for him when I see it. For now I think people looking for an excuse to get rid of Gagner a titch short-sighted. - Morris
This appears to be a person that thinks Gagner is worth holding on to..

See my other post and include the following stats and tell me he's been given a chance:
0:09 PP minutes/game |

Yeah, what I said there was pretty self-explanatory and pretty reasonable.
There's a massive chasm between not wanting to get rid of him for the sake of being rid of him, and thinking he's an amazing untouchable 2c. |

I think he's a person who doesn't want to get rid of a well developed, serviceable 2C UNLESS were actually getting a player that fills a larger void. He also is saying that there currently isn't an offer out there for him that brings back a top 2 defender... |

Dwight King is a high return? Can you point out some examples of the kind of posts you're talking about? |

Well developed? I beg to differ. Serviceable? Maybe...
Obviously you're not getting a 2D for that smurf. |
