Well i personally think that you're overly pessimistic. You probably thought marincin was barely (AHL) top pairing capable last month. I bet if i back read id find it to be a fact.

Lander produces well at the AHL level and he absolutely deserves a shot if gagner is traded for a dman. Arco and Lander should see 10-15 games each to judge their progress. Same goes for Klef and Fedun. Belov, larsen and Nutlz are atrocious.

However, I do agree that landers footspeed needs work. But he competes hard and has a contract to earn. let him get after it

At some point management has to take a risk on someone. Mike Richards can contribute WAY more than Smurf Gagner can. What good is another 1st Round pick in 2015? Unless they finish dead last AGAIN and pick McDavid (highly unlikely) then there's no reason to hold onto that pick.

And 1st rounders are always important. 80% of 1st rounders become regular NHLers. The fact that we went 8 of 9 years with first round busts is a massive reason we are where we are.....

The oilers are FILLED with character guys that we've picked up out of thin air. Were dead last in the west. IF gags is moved, bring him up and see what he has. If it doesn't work, were no worse for ware... still dead last

His contract sucks how? His hit is $5.75M for the next 6 years. I think that's realistic for a 2C considering Gagner is making $4.8M and brings much less. Not to mention the cap is rising substantially, that could turn out to be a bargain in the future. For (frank) sakes, Callahan is asking $6M...

Yes he's struggled, but so did Getzlaf last year and look at him - Hart Trophy contender. Not saying Richards is in the same league as Getzlaf, but he's a proven, quality player that brings the defensive aspects the Oil desperately need along with some skill.

I agree, 1st Rounders are important, but once in awhile you gotta give one up to make a push. Happens all the time and teams don't get totally (frank)ed for the next 10 years... I think the cupboards are relatively stocked that they can afford to give up one 1st Rounder. Unless of course they keep Gagner and make no changes because then there's a good chance we'll be in the basement again... Yay McDavid!

There's no reason to replace him for the sake of replacing him, and I'll believe we get a decent return for him when I see it. For now I think people looking for an excuse to get rid of Gagner a titch short-sighted.

I would think Arco is a stop gap until we could find an upgrade. Either via FA or trade.
