Well luckily the Canucks have some decent prospects in there system for once. Not sure who the Flames have prospect wise? But I dont think they're very deep. Monohans no longer considered a prospect imho. Backlund is struggling, Who else do you guys have?
- vancity787

Backlund was just the NHL's 3rd star of the week

john gaudreau is gonna win the hobey baker and continues to dominate the NCAA
Sven, Granlund, Hanowski, Reinhart, are leading one of the top teams in the AHL

then you got the other first rounders from last year Porier and Klimchuck doing very well in the WHL

Flames have some good prospects

Hockey Future has Calgary at 13 and Vancouver at 24 in terms of prospects

CLG is at 13 now, but their pool was pretty bad when they started their downward spiral and their NHL roster was worse than Van's current roster.

Oh, and Hutton's winning the Hobey Baker

.....nah, It'll probably be Gaudreau...but I'd be happy with runner-up for Hutton.

You guys think St Louis would be interested in Bieksa for Shattenkirk?

Hopefully Edler and Karlsson develop amazing chemistry at the Olympics. I could see the Sens and the Canucks pulling off a hockey deal.

Zibenajad, Puempel, and a pick?

I've always liked Backlund a lot, was surprised when it was rumoured that he was available earlier this year. Very good 3LC IMO.

I think management has realized it...much sooner than your Flames did.

I don't want multiple years of tanking, Oiler-style though. Make some creative trades to get younger and gain some future cap/trading flexibility.

If you read my post that was exactly my point...

The proof will be in action, not in words. Flames only really had a few tradeable vets (notably Iginla and Kipper) who could have been traded for younger assets. We've got a few more than that lined up. Let's see what comes of this new found epiphany.
- AlexF

Agreed. I'd prefer not to go full-Oilers though, keep around some solid vets to keep the young guys accountable and to set an example. In an ideal world, you trade a few vets for some young players that have at least shown some ability in the NHL, even if not for a full season.

The way he's playing now is better than 3C IMO.

On a contender, I'd say he's a 3LC. Wouldn't trust him as my 2LC against CHI/STL/SJ/LA/ANA

Most delusional Calgary fans have him as a 1C. Thats what happens when your cupboard is relatively bare.

Recently beat 4 of those teams as a #1 center

He is a good #2 if he keeps up this play and keeps progressing
