Would you be saying the same if Clarkson accepted that contract?
- Nucker101

6 mill for 4 years would have been high. But I think he would have fit better with our system and line mates.

If he had accepted it though I doubt the Perron trade happens.

Glad he turned us down...

unfortunately I would think that Callahan has the Rangers a little over the barrell at the moment... similar to the Phaneuf in Toronto situation... the Rags really do need to keep Callahan.

unless Sather has a plan to resign FAs Gaborik and Gomez in the off season and needs the CAP space

- BorjeFan4Ever

Yea, saying goodbye to his 9 goals this season will be really hard. Or his 250 points in 444 games. Anyone who pays this guy more than 4 mill per for his leadership and intangibles is an idiot.

MacT has been GM for less than a year and has made multiple good deals....just because he hasn't pulled of the big deal for a top 2 Dman everyone poops on him?

Haters just like to hate I guess...

any other team: this is what sucks and this and this and this

its kind of getting hard to take you seriously.

Bullpoop.

I crap on the Oilers players regularly. You just don't visit our thread. And I regularly have good things to say about many other teams players. Leafs aren't one of them because they are poop so it makes you angry. Too bad.

Snow does have a hard on for goalies tho....
- Oilfan19

My thoughts are that Miller should have been the object of the trade instead of Vanek in the first place. Moulson would have been an easy re-sign. Vanek will probably go to Minny next year and sign for less then Buffalo offered him and probably for what NY offered.

I'm convinced 99% of HockeyBuzz doesn't watch the players play. They just look at +/- stats all day

I think it behooves the Rangers to keep Callahan as well, but he can't mean enough to that organization to justify over paying him by $15 to $20 million dollars.
- MnGump

7x6.5+ for Callahan, his reported demands, are indefensible for any team to commit to.

Well aside from watching teams that play against you're favorite team, how many "other" games can you watch on any given night?

Besides, it's all relative for the most part, if you've seen a team play 3 or 4 times per season, it doesn't take a bonafide hockey analyst to figure out how good or not a team or it's players are, especially when you add in their stats.

With that said, obviously the more you watch a certain team the more qualified you become to effectively critique them, but even so, you still don't need to know every intimate detail about a team/player to have a credible opinion on them.

Hall no. But I think you need to keep in mind that as good as some of these guys are, maybe as a team or line mates they just dont jibe. Could be chemistry issues, personality conflicts etc... things that just don't make this thing work as a team.

Obviously I don't know any of that, but I'm just saying maybe there are issues at play here that you or we as fans can't see or are not privy to that just won't allow these guys to play better as a team.

Personally, if I were an Oiler fan, I would want them to keep their draft picks and start trying to acquire more talent via trades, be it players and prospects and/or more picks. I mean somethings gotta give there, because obviously something is not working. You can't tell me that with all that talent there, these guys shouldn't at least be in the middle of the standings, at least! But with all that talent, they still linger around the very bottom of the league year after year.

That to me means that these guys don't belong together. Like I said, I think you keep Hall no matter what, maybe RNH too, but you start shopping guys like Eberle, Yakupov, Schultz, Hemsky and Gagner. Get a max return on guys like Eberle and Schultz and get some equal returns on guys like Hemsky and Gagner. Oilers clearly need more depth players.

- MnGump

This is typical. As if 4 of the struggling years previous to hall beung drafted has some sort of failure reflection on them.
Yaks is 20
Nuge is 20
Hall is 22

I can understand wanting to switch the mixup abit, but it seems to become fact on hb that these kids are failures a couple years into their careers.
Theyve been given no insulation, the worst defence in the league and no goalie to instill some confidence

I think there's no doubt our top 6 kids need work on their 2 way game. But they aint the problem.
Add a couple players to our defence, some size and goaltending and we'll revisit the convo if theyre still lingering at the bottom

I'll admit. I don't like the Leafs and don't have much good to say about many of them. But I'll defend good players on any team. When Giordano was getting poop on by Leaf fans I jumped in....I don't like many Canuck players but the Sedins are amazing to watch. I love the Oilers but I (frank)ing hate Hemsky and have been begging for a decade to get rid of him....

and in fairness.. many leaf fans are all rah rah rah and even i find it obnoxious. however, as with all teams and players, there are pros and cons

i try to stay unbiased as much as possible personally.

Can't disagree. Taking into consideration his age, his style of play and his proness to injury along with his career stats.... If he wants 7 years, I think his max deal is $40 mill give or take a half million.

Wow, this coming from an Islander fan is very amusing.

I agree that he is not worth close to what he is apparently asking for, but for you to comment on this makes me laugh.

But I am not surprised that an Islander fan would not understand the value that some players have that go beyond numbers (to a certain extent of course).

You haven't had a leader like Callahan in your organization in what 18 years? More?

Worry about your own team. You certainly have enough to be concerned about.

NYI for Miller?
The would've made A LOT of sense earlier in the season, but now?
There's 12points out of a spot, and have to jump like 5-6 teams...
And I can't see any way Miller would extend there?
That doesn't make much sense to me

StLouis, Washington & Minnesota seem the most likely to me
I think he'd re-sign in Minnesota too (Pominville, Suter, Parise)
And it would likely assure them of getting Vanek in the offseason as well

Fair enough, I'm not saying get rid of everybody, i'm just saying that some sort of needed change is evident. I just think trading a couple high value players could really add some nice depth and/or a couple of top defensemen to that roster. At some point someone has to say "this just isn't working" and do something about it.

Thought the Perron trade was top notch, but I think they need a couple more like it. You go after a goalie like Miller in the off season and make some moves to bolster the blue line and I think everything could turn around for the Oil.

This coming from a Rangers Fan. I thought you would have been sick and tired of Sather/previous GMs breaking the bank on players for intangibles. Holik, Drury, Gomez etc... Have fun paying Callahan 6 mill/yr to go away in a few seasons.

Because we have J.Schultz which is basically the same player. Oilers want a couple shutdown, tough to play against dmen.
- Oilfan19

You are not kidding. Holy crap I went to the Oils/Sabresgame last night where Buffalo having the absolute worst Offense in the league and minus their only scorer in Moulson..basically the Sabres controlled play with 45+ shots on net and large chunks of O-zone time .. This coming from the absolute worst puck possession team in the league. Oilers MUST trade, draft and acquire UFA D-men .. Their blueline absolutely sucks. You know it's bad when a Sabrea fan calls out another teams D!!!! Stop drafting O... d wins championships .. Source SuperBowl 48 2014

Makes you wonder who Ranger fans would be more willing to pay the big bucks to if they had to let one go... Nash or Callahan?
