Koivu is your best center. He's not going anywhere, even if Leipold is a gigantic hypocrite. - tomburton99

What is the reasoning in Isles trading for Miller at this point? Especially after the Vanek experience |

According to Bob Mac the Rags and Callahan are far apart on dollars and term....
Wants between 6.5 and 7 mill for 7 years. No way anyone is giving him that. - Iggysbff
I'm sure it's been mentioned, but...
the sabres are gonna need to hit the cap floor next year |

I'm guessing Coyle is untouchable though & a guy like Zucker the best we could expect back?
I think if u guy trade for Miller he'll re-sign, plus it pretty much locks up Vanek going there as a UFA...
You'd have a legit shot at the cup for the next 5yrs |

You are right...gotta love HB
How about drafting a D man earlier rather than O first. How about using the 1st overall as trade-bait...trade back a few, grab a roster D-man then draft another.. Get creative...it happens, just cause you have the first doesn't mean you have to keep it. Good lord! Lookup Insanity, Einstein. - IonSabres
Draft dmen inside the first?
Like they did with nurse and klefbom u mean?
And again;
should they have taken gudbranson over hall???
Or larsson over nuge??
And who said the first isnt in play?
Mact has actually said it was at one point this year.
Get creative and try and move the pick?
Like how they offered the 1st for schneider last year and were rebuffed cause of intra division....
Good lord is right!!. |

which is an absolutely terrible rationale for giving out an atrocious long term deal. the cap floor is a consistently overhyped problem
BTW, everyone who uses "well, the cap's constantly going up" - look at the value of the loonie right now and think again. Friedman quoted two capologists as saying a 90 cent CAD could mean the cap drops 1-1.5M.

Per the CBA, the cap can not go below 64.3 million no matter the revenues. |

Except that they'd have 5 guys taking up over half their cap. Not a great way to build a team |

the islanders are NOT getting ryan miller. why would they get him for 15 games, just so he can be a UFA? so we can try to convince him to stay?
the only sceneario is a sign and trade and there is 0 chance of that. so sick of miller and the isles being talked about. |

It's obviously not just about this year but years to come...and it have to be a sign and trade. If your the isles what's been a big need...goaltending! Nabby probably won't be back(retired) and poulin needs a lot of work. Personally I don't see it happening! |

Well they'd obviously have to make some moves, Heatleys fat salary would be replaced by Vaneks, not sure Callahan would come here unless he's willing to stay at around $5.5 million per. Koivu would most likely be the odd man out in order to consider any scenario like this. Koivu is making over $6.5 million per year so if he were traded, plenty of room to bring in a guy like Callahan.
Plus Cap going up as well. - MnGump
Buffalo would more than happily take Koivu off your hands... |

Detroit could really use a guy like Vanek. But he'd come at a hefty price tag and we'd have to clear space or have have some more of his cap hit held. - YzermanIsTheMan

Koivu easily still one of my favorite players. Personally I wouldn't want to see him go, but Fletcher strapped the team cap space by handing him a 6 year deal worth over $40 million. I love Mikko, but that's a bit high.
Mikko gets a bit of bad rap from Wild fans because of his contract. His current cap hit is $6.75 Million. That's more than either Toews or Kane. But Mikko doesn't put up anywhere near Toews or Kane type numbers.
Great 2 way player, great in the face of circle and strong on the puck. Not worth $6.7 million for another 4 years though... |

Hey Ek, curious why you put Minny back as the front runner in the Vanek sweepstakes! I still can't see them giving anything up this season to get him, unless it's a deal that involves MacDonald w/Vanek and Backstrom and Heatley going NY's way... |
