So do you think they would be on another team? The culture/moral is soooo bad there.
- moylander

Maybe. They have the skill to do anything. Its more about commitment to defense, discipline and effort.

Just don't expect a player to change just because he changes teams.

No Stamkos in the Olympics, per many twitter sources.

So no Stamkos means who in his place?
- nastyflyergirl

Pretty sure, it will be St. Louis. Stevie Y being his GM, kind of makes sense.

I don't... But again its not like scouting reports have been negative on this guys defense his whole career. Its only until playing in edmonton that he is getting knocked re: defense. I agree with the commitment piece. There is not a single player committed in edmonton. Must be tough to play there.

I think so too. They only have 5 natural wingers on the roster.

I think Boston had 8 natural centers they year they won the Cup. Much easier to move a C to wing than the other way around. Also, Giroux was originally a winger, But yes, if it's between him and St. Louis, Marty probably gets the nod.

Certainly G is worthy, but this is sort of a lifetime achievement award for St. Louis. Also, I wonder if the selection committee is sort of sticking it to G for missing the camp over the summer. Really, does Marleau do anything better then G on the ice?

Schenn was thought of as a Mike Richards clone in Juniors. He doesn't have close to the defensive ability of Richards yet.

Some guys score so much in Juniors that they don't even need to worry as much about defense. Ovechkin wasn't a great defender early in his career but he was +30 during some seasons because he scored so damn much. Same with Mike Green.

Selfishly, I hope it's NOT Giroux. But I'm sure Giroux may not feel that way.

I agree. Some centers are more built for wing than others. I think they need to be able to either win board battles or have good speed. Thats why Vinny is having trouble adjusting to wing.

I really doubt they care about G missing their summer fun camp.

Maybe, but some of the other selections (notably Marleau) are very suspicious.

I think B. Schenn is the trade chip they use to bolster blue line. Vinny can keep the seat warm at center through next year as Laughton is brought along on the 4th line. I can't think of another reason why they haven't extended Schenn yet, they seem to have no problem extending guys they want to keep (of course they extend guys who they don't either - Richards, Carter, JVR
)

Apparently the Flyers and Schenn's camp met and agreed to start negotiations after the season.

He has a lot of experience playing wing. He also kills penalties.

Not saying I would have taken him over G. Just trying to understand why they picked him

Giroux set a QMJHL playoff record for scoring while playing wing, kills penalties, and is just flat-out better. There's a host of wingers (St. Louis and Benn the top two) I would have taken over him.

Schenn is a different type of player than Laughton. He's shown he can be a good 2nd line center when Vinny isn't anchoring the line down. Im not sure Couturier or Laughton will score enough to be a 2nd line center. I hold out hope that Couturier will.
