In theory, could Montreal trade Briere to a team for a playoff run that still has a Compliance buyout and then that team buys Briere out after the season and he collects 2 buyout paychecks with the ability to sign with another team for a 3rd paycheck?

Who's to say Richie isnt going back in the Edmonton deal if they do get Gagner..Richie is the type of player Oilers need, hard to believe not one player on the Kings roster has NTC.
- flyerfan28

doubt he'd be happy going to the Oilers

Gus: 2 yrs, 2.75 mil, cap hit 1.375 mil
B Schenn: 2 yrs, 4.25 mil, cap hit 2.125 mil
Raffl: 2 yrs, 2.5 mil, cap hit 1.25 mil

Some GM will give Mez 2 years and 4million, it won't be here.

That could happen. But I don't know how attractive he's been, being as he's beena healthy scratch/demoted to the 4th line.

I don't know but that seems like it shouldn't be allowed.

If Briere goes to the Pens I would not like it.

Cant buyout any contracts given after the new CBA took effect.

Maybe, but they are tied to him for years and offense has been their biggest need the last few years. Maybe they find a trade partner for him but I think if they could cut ties and put that money towards Moulson, Vanek etc I think they'd rather go that route. Richie is a 3rd liner, PK guy at this point. Yes, the cap is going up. But its a high price to pay for a guy trending down.

based on his past history, someone would still want him for a playoff run. He really seems to find a new gear for the playoffs.

I thought they did to, but according to capgeek they do not. I thought i heard somewhere and i could be wrong, once you got traded your NTC's were voided if they were part of your deal.

Well then I'd think Montreal would want to keep him for their playoff run.

On Hemsky...

The Red Wings and Penguins are the most aggressive. However keep an eye out for the Flyers, they have defense the Oilers like.

Also, Hemsky is bad. Just bad. He's like Olli Jokinen. Good numbers, but bad.

They better like Hal Gill then cause thats all they're gettin unless J.Schultz is coming back in the deal. I like Hemsky but Flyers can hardly lose any quality d-men.

Yeah, I'd rather have the three 2nd rounders than Hemsky.

They aren't getting Coburn without a Eberle coming back.

Looking at how bad the Oilers are, 3 2nd round picks might not have been that bad. It's almost like having 3 late first round picks.

I thought the Briere to Pittsburgh rumor was weirder. Don't know how I'd feel about that.
