Richards has really fallen off this season. He doesn't look like the same player when he is out there. But I doubt they buy him out.

That's a matter of opinion. And in my opinion the author used an excellent example to explain the need for context when using analytics. I've got plenty of other reference articles concerning analytics and how they need to be used in the correct context.

When defending Nik Grossmann, the absolute last name you want to bring up is Douglas Murray, just sayin'.

As for your links, I've got Google bookmarked too, but thanks anyway.

I would. He's still a good player and it would be a huge payout.

I knew I was forgetting someone!

I feel like Raff gets a little more than Gus. 2 years at like 3.5 or 3.75 or so. A shade under 2 mil AAV

The reason I think Schenn makes that much is he, numbers wise, is one of our best "2nd tier" players (i.e. players not named Giroux, Voracek, etc)\

That being said, he's also a RFA, so he's got no leverage- I could certainly see him getting 2 or 2.5 AAV over 3 years. I definitely think it'll be a 3 year deal.

If Richie's fallen off, what's Dustin Brown doing? Digging a tunnel to China?

I don't really want Mez back. I don't think he wants to come back as a 7th defenseman either. Some team will give him a better opportunity.
- PhillySportsGuy

I wouldn't be so sure. People haven't exactly been chomping at the bit to deal a low pick for him

I dunno. I'm of course speculating. I would like him back, honestly.

Meszaros is likely to want at least $2m and a guaranteed spot in the top 6, neither of which the Flyers should give him.

If its true they are shopping for Gagner, then it might happen. But it wont be long before 5 million is average for a player like Richards. I mean Hartnell makes 4.3... I would say Richards is at least 1 million better..

I think he plays the role of 'shutdown center' so he's usually facing tougher competition.

All in all, he hasn't had a great year. I still don't think they'd buy him out though.

How about deal length?
Has Raffl gotten to the point where they give him a 3 year deal?
Erik Gustafsson another 1 year deal?

B Schenn is the most interesting I think.
I'd be in favor of a 2 year bridge thing like Couts got, but he might get longer.

- Marc D

I think Raffl gets 2 years around $1.5M-$1.75M a year.
Gus will probably get q QO (so...$1.21M)
I'd give Schenn 3 years at $2.5M/year.

As for a Mike Richards trade, his offensive play has taken a serious nosedive (1 goal in 23+ games) but he still plays solid D and is a good PKer. His value isn't what it was when he was traded, but I don't think the Kings are looking to trade him necessarily, and I don't think the Flyers could get him without creating a bigger hole (wingers/D).

And there's no way LA buys him out when, if they really wanted him gone, they could trade him to 29 other teams for assets.

Who's to say Richie isnt going back in the Edmonton deal if they do get Gagner..Richie is the type of player Oilers need, hard to believe not one player on the Kings roster has NTC.
