Would you trade Couturier for Ovechkin? Assuming the Flyers had $20M in cap space.
- PhillySportsGuy

If cap space were no problem, yes.

Sorry, late to the party. The Flyers' ECHL affiliate was Trenton last season. That team is currently dormant. The Greenville Road Warriors have been affiliated with the NY Rangers since their first year, 10-11. The Flyers had an agreement to put players there that year. Cullen Eddy, Riopel, Harper, MAB, and a few others spent time with the GRW. After the Trenton franchise declared that they would not participate in 13-14, the Flyers announced that they would be using Greenville again. That agreement fell apart early in the year. It was widely speculated that the NYR prospects were getting preferential assignments and coaching.

While the Flyers have a couple prospects scattered around the ECHL, they do not have an official ECHL affiliation currently. Carson Chubak was originally moved to Orlando, then recalled to the Phantoms while Danis was injured. Murray only played him in one game. He was later loaned to Reading for a brief stay. Chubak is currently back on the Phantoms roster and is a perpetual healthy scratch.

You need to stop by more often!

Have you been watching Nick Cousins? If so, how's he looked?

They kind of said the same thing about PA Parenteau... small, slow, one-way player. It might take Akeson some time to shake the stereotype, but it's hard to ignore that he's done nothing but score score score at every level.
- Tomahawk

The AHL is full of players that have scored at every level except the NHL level. Jon Sim, and Peter White were AHL scoring studs. Newberry is a top line player in the AHL, but a call up at the NHL level.

Still no. Not a chance.
Also, Ekblad's probably top-2, likely top overall.

Do you really just think Couturier has so little value? Because you're really underestimating his value and overestimating these young unproven players.

We are not trading Schenn or Couturier stop it. If Vinny and/or Giroux goes down, who do we have to play?
- 2Real

Wait a second....I think.....

THAT'S JASON AKESON'S MUSIC!!!!

I wouldn't trade a star/superstar who's the captain of my team for an unknown, no matter how much of a sure thing it seems.
- jmatchett383

It's one of those trade scenarios that seems impossibly stupid in the present, but probably will look like a steal in the future.

Probably. But since it's only "probably" I'll pass.
Heck, I don't think anyone would have advocated trading Primeau for Pittsburgh's 1st pick in 2005...now...

I really wonder what kind of offers the Pens turned down in the week between the BS lottery and that draft.

Seems like a waste. Who is NJ using?
- jmatchett383

The NJ Devils are sharing Elmira with the Senators. It is not uncommon for ECHL teams to have multiple affiliations. The Reading Royals were with both Boston and Toronto before their current agreement with Washington/Hershey.

Are there any unaffliated ECHL team?

I'd stand pat unless an offer came that was too good to pass up (1st for Timonen, 2nd for Downie, 4th or better for Mez, Weber for Rosehill).

Minor buyers.

I don't think they have the chips to be deep into the buyer's market.

If there's another "Talbot for Downie" deal to be made, then fine. But I wouldn't do anything bigger than something like that.

With some talk of the ECHL and AHL, I always wondered:

How does the East Coast Hockey League have a team in Alaska?
How does the American Hockey League have teams in Canada?
Which nation is referred to in the "National" Hockey League?

I would look to stand pat but put out feelers. If they can add the roster without giving up a significant asset then go ahead. If they can trade a player for much higher value than he's worth than go ahead.

I just don't want them to do anything that will hinder the future. This team does not need to be giving up first round picks for Brian Campbell
