This!!!!

Simmons will score those ugly goals in the dirty areas. Hartnell, as much as I like the guy, exasperates me. Ever since he had that 30 goal season, he isn't quite as willing to play in the dirty areas of the crease as much. He was hard to move FROM the crease during that stretch! Has anyone told him, he isn't the next Gretzky? While he can finish a pretty one once in a while, he is built for power and mayhem. I played much bigger than my size in school and college. It was how I needed to play to be effective and useful. Are ya listening SH???

That's how he's been playing the last 10 games or so, and he's producing because of it.

Downie (UFA) - I like him with Couts and Read, sign him to a 1-2 year deal for same or less $.
B. Schenn (RFA) - Bridge deal, 2-3 years 2-3 mil per.
Raffl (RFA) - Similar to Read, can play on different lines, 2-3 year deal, small bump up in salary.
Hall (UFA) - Adios. Laughton with Raffl and Rinaldo will be a nice 4th line.
Kimmo (UFA) - Retirement.
Mez (UFA) - Deadline deal, bye.
Gus (RFA) - 2-3 year deal, around 1 mil per.
Gill (UFA) - Enjoy retirement.
Emery (UFA) - Thanks for your efforts, other back-ups can be equal for less.

timonen should be traded at the TDL

Are you referring to the Gaborik who scored 3 goals in 12 games last year, the one who's scored 5 goals in 18 games this year, or the one who scored 9 games in 35 games 2 years ago?

They could just go resign Zherdev for cheaper.

- jmatchett383

Yup, that one. I dont think he is going to be as expensive as most people think and put him with Giroux and Voracek... I dont think he ever had 2 guys that could feed him the puck like that... and he would also draw coverage off Giroux. defense on that line might be an issue, but.. the offense might be unstoppable.. It would definately be a gamble, but one that I would be willing to make.

I can't wait until Couturier gets to what he's going to be, to show how all of these trade proposals involving Couturier would be a collossal blunder.
- MJL

This too! How many shut down centers are there in this league? Not many!! I you trade him, get ready to watch the over teams best lines run roughshod!

If the Flyers offered Timonen at the deadline, they'd have to hire a new person to help answer the phone.
- MJL

If we're not re-signing him or he is going to retire, this is something I definitely explore. Unless we're solidly in 2nd in the Metro, meaning we have a good shot at a playoff run, he could bring us a decent return for sure.

They last beat them in 2000, last in SJ was 1999...I believe.

What are people's thought on extending:

Downie (UFA) trade at deadline
B. Schenn (RFA) 4/14
Raffl (RFA) 2/2
Hall (UFA) 2/1.6
Kimmo (UFA) try and extend him for 1/3 in a reduced role, if its not enough money then trade at deadline
Mez (UFA) trade at deadline
Gus (RFA) 2/3
Gill (UFA) let him walk
Emery (UFA) 1/1 or let him walk

Which would you keep, and what would your offer be?

- jmatchett383

This team is not ready to make a deep run yet, stockpile draft picks/young players for these guys .

My point exactly. So why does he suddenly become invisible for stretches, or worse yet, go incognito but produce penalties? Just stay on track SH and you will be rewarded handsomely

2 things:
1) Schenn/Raffl/Gus ARE young players
2) In order to get picks/young players, there has to be a market. There may not be a market for some/most of them.

The only way I consider moving Couturier is if he is the major piece of getting a getting a legit under 30 number 1 Dman back .

Weber, Pieterangelo, Doughty , maybe OEL based on what he should turn out to be.

It's the JvR conundrum. When he played like...well, like he's played in Toronto, he was unstoppable. Then he'd disappear for 10 games. Hartnell's the same, and you just hope he's finally figured out that he has to get back to basics like he has been.

Agreed. It's not even a "number 1" that I want, I want an ELITE defenseman in return for him (in a package).

In my view of getting faster, I wonder if there is any way to get Baertschi and the rights to Gaudreau and Calgary's first.

Say... Couturier, Read, Flyers 1st for Baertschi, Gaudreau, and Calgary 1st.

I would think a deal that would land 2 speedy scoring wingers... and Sven B is developing into a 2 way forward as well, plus a lottery pick... Possible 1 or 2 in which you can get that future number 1 d-man... It would be worth the deal.
