Apparently (source - Dreger and McKenzie) Callahans contract demands are 7 years and OVER $6.5m per. How out of your (frank)ing mind would you have to be to sign him to a deal like that, my god.

I've noticed. He talks about hockey.. but in a way that a kid with extreme comprehension issues and a case of mild Tourettes would. Not too mention the lack of punctuation, spelling, capitalization, etc.

Completely agree. If for that long, he shouldn't get anywhere near 6 million. Maybe 5m, or 5.5m over that length.. but 6.5 would only work for maybe.. 3 years?

No, she's cool with it.

But, listen up, kiddo. Keep up the good work. We do always like to see the under privileged succeed in the real world.

With players' salaries increasing (as well as the salary cap), it isn't that asinine for Callahan to also want to be paid. He's a 55-point player who can hit and play a top-six wing position. If players like David Clarkson, Ryan Clowe, etc. are being paid an average of $5 mil annually, it isn't too far-fetched to see Callahan want $6 mil annually.

Would I sign him for that? Depends on team and how much salary cap space they have, but any team that signs him for like five-years; $27 million would still be getting a good deal.

It must be a nice feeling for Minnesota to rid themselves of $7.5 million with Heatley's contract expiring.

Do they replace that $7 million with Vanek and $7 million? I could see it.

A 55 point player who has only once approached that number, with an injury record, heading into his 30s. Yeah.

A players market value = /= it being a worthy investment to sign him to that market value.

LOL @ Habs....I'm a fan but this organization has become a joke!

Oooooooo Dale Weise he's a scary 4th liner!

Molson needs to man up and put the French media in their place.
Coach and Gm can't speak French too bad learn to speak whatever language they speak losers!

God I hate the French media and fans that DEMAND a French identity for the habs.
That stupid fan and media pressure has ruined a great franchise

You guys suck balls!

It is actually an incomplete in my mind until I see what type of return he can generate for Vanek at the trade deadline. Moulson is a player that stated publicly he wanted to stay on the Isle BUT he had padded stats and stood to make a tone of money pitting the islanders against the market. I wouldn't want Snow to throw big money at Mouson long term IMO. Islanders needed to make a splash and will potential get more valuable assets for Vanek than they ever could for Moulson.

Sure Snow rolled the dice on Vanek whose NEXT destination is the WORST KEPT SECRET in the NHL BUT to have Vanek to flip to high bidder as rental at deadline with the Western Conference so crazy tight and teams starving for scoring it is shaping up to be perfect storm!

The Islanders have PLENTY of prospects in the pipeline so a 1st rd pick in the 20s isnt a huge loss IMO if you can add pieces for Vanek that fill needs that you can internally going forward.

Oh and Vanek will be on a line centered by Mikael Granlund AKA Finnish Jesus and with Jason Pominville on the other side for the next 5 years!

- Tony Dean

As I stated in the Wild blog, I have my doubts about Vanek actually signing in Minny. I just don't think Leopold is willing or able to hand out another $7+ million per year max deal which is what it would almost certainly take to acquire him.

Right, the point of bringing up Scrivens however, is that he is currently leading the league in save percentage.

You can talk about Leafs cast offs all you want, but there are quite a few examples of players they've thrown away or given up on that are currently playing very well. As there are with any team, hence why people tend not throw it around as an attempted insult.
