poor bergevin, gillis didn't even lube up before that deal.......
what an AWFUL trade by mtl. a top 4 dman for a fringe nhl player..........he could/should have gotten way more for diaz - sensarmy_11
Diaz wants 3m+ per year...
he was gone anyway...for nothing this summer
Replaced by Beaulieu (rookie)
Edit : Sens are great, but why so many empty seats? and you blame ownership?

yeah, I agree. These kind of players ... um, wait. Did you say Leafs?

Have fun with Steve Mason for the next 3 and a half years. And the goalie carousel in Philly continues..

Could be worse, we could have andrew raycroft instead of Tuukka. Or Kessel instead of Seguin and Hamilton. That point aside putting the terms "contending power house" and "Toronto Maple Leafs" in the same sentence is just unacceptable in most scenarios. The exception would be "The Toronto Maple Leafs are pretty far away from being a contending powerhouse." - Girouxsalem90
I take Kessel over both of them right now easy...mustve sucked trading away your 2 best forwards at the time in Richards n Carter and seeing them win the Cup the same year. See I can play this game too.. |

That I could partially understand. But if the plan is to bring our AHL guys, then DO IT NOW. Because right now with the D we have we will continue to sink in the standing. Not just because goals against (Price / Budaj are playing pretty good most nights), but also because of our offense, since we never have the puck since our actual D can't get it back. That's no mystery why the Habs are constantly being outshot ... - Popofjc
I would agree with you except that Tinordi and Patheryn need to gain confidence on the ice which is why they're still in Hamilton playing big minutes. At the end of the season, Bouillon and Murray will probably be gone and either Tinordi, Patheryn or Drewiske (hope not but we never know...) will fill the last spot on the third defensive pair. If not, I'm sure Bergevin will fill the spot with an OK defenseman. I'm still a Bergevin believer and I'm sure he'll make the right choice! |

so you're admitting that Diaz was a pretty much useless UFA to be... and you're complaining about what he brought back in a trade? - DoubleDown
yes - cause Weise is as useless to the roster, now and future wise...I would have applauded the deal if it was for a 3rd round pick
if all we got back was a guy who we have 5 of already, keep Diaz for D depth for the playoffs (assuming they make it), and lose him for nothing, or trade him for a draft pick, where you have a shot at something of use for the future |

Respectfully...I was going to say the same thing about you.
You seem to constantly criticize Montreal for everything. - Molariii
My knowledge isn't hidden. It's very much public. I've exposed it several times, so allow me to expose it again. Diaz has been better defensively than Emelin, Murray, Bouillon, and perhaps even Gorges over the past two seasons because his goals against per 60 minutes of play is lower than theirs, even while facing tougher opposition and zone starts. He is better at preventing the opposition from scoring, which is the ultimate goal of defense.
If you need any further justification, look at the article posted by Popofjc. Of course, you probably won't, because you have a number of deeply-rooted misconceptions and prejudices about the game of hockey, and you won't look at cold hard facts unless they leave those misconceptions intact. Don't be alarmed though: you're no worse than Michel Therrien and Marc Bergevin, as this season has shown.
And that's pretty sad for them. |

Did you miss the playoffs last season when Montreal faced Ottawa?
If you did watch, there's no way you really believe that this was an "AWFUL" trade. - Pecafan Fan
I watched the playoffs, and I saw Anderson steal the series with a well-timed hot streak, despite Montreal dominating possession and scoring chances in most of the games. Now I'm seeing Bergevin overreact to a ridiculous outcry for "MOARBIG" and throw away talent to sign and trade for large, incompetent players such as Murray, Parros, and (to a lesser extent as the other two) Weise.
When the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup last year, they were among the top-5 smallest teams in the league by weight and height. Yet they played a puck possession system and dominated. This is what the Habs need to do. Not play an ill-fitting and unproductive dump-and-chase system, but play a high-speed, high-skill offensive system that fits their best players' strengths (see: Subban, Pacioretty, Galchenyuk, Gallagher, Plekanec, etc.); namely, puck possession. They did it last year with much success, but they've abandoned it this year to disastrous results. |

Just a side note about Hainsey; he's never played a playoff game in the National League. |

[quote=willey101]Soft, very soft and he makes really bad outlet passes. Remember Eller in the playoffs? He's made the same suicide passes quite a few times this year. Recently he's been in the press box because Beaulieu has played better as has Bouillon.
Truthfully no room for him with Pateryn, Nygren, Tinordi all set to play here.

Not to mention being the joke of the league regarding paying Bryz like a billion $$$ then buying him out..and oh yea even if we were considered a powerhouse (im not saying we are) but it would be thanks to a young ubber talented big power forward named JVR..thanks again...Schenn who???? |

I mean, I guess "right now" is the caveat. Kessel's an elite scorer, no doubt about it. But man, Dougie Hamilton sure looks like he'll be a perennial Norris candidate in the near future, and Seguin's a point-per-game, first-line centre at 22.
I can see the argument for trading Kessel one-for-one, but the notion that you could've had both is still hard to ignore. |

Vanek turns down extension in Long Island! Go figure... Boy is Snow looking like a real genius now for making that deal! Nothing like trading away your best UFA forward and a first round pick for another UFA/rental player who everyone knew wasn't going to re-sign there, and in a season where they were going nowhere to begin with! That's just good GM'ing right there! That's what that is...

Ah, Milbury.. the NY Rangers best friend for a good long time. Getting rid of Luongo, Bertuzzi, Spezza (pick), and so many others whom I don't remember right now. |

I don't mind it at all. Diaz was gone either way, and regardless of the stats that say he's reliable defensively, he's a small soft D-man who can't shoot, not exactly a long line of teams waiting for those players.
He was gone for nothing in a few months in any case. Sure Weise isn't a great return, but if you've been watching Habs games for the last couple weeks, they might as well not even have a bottom 6. The identity of lines has gone out the window in Therrien's frantic line scrambling panic and there hasn't been a 3rd or 4th line combo worth poop for forechecking.
Maybe, Weise does nothing to help that. Hell, he probably does nothing to help it. But if getting rid of a player who wasn't dressing for games saves me from watching Briere get beat up in corners, then hey |

It is actually an incomplete in my mind until I see what type of return he can generate for Vanek at the trade deadline. Moulson is a player that stated publicly he wanted to stay on the Isle BUT he had padded stats and stood to make a tone of money pitting the islanders against the market. I wouldn't want Snow to throw big money at Mouson long term IMO. Islanders needed to make a splash and will potential get more valuable assets for Vanek than they ever could for Moulson.
Sure Snow rolled the dice on Vanek whose NEXT destination is the WORST KEPT SECRET in the NHL BUT to have Vanek to flip to high bidder as rental at deadline with the Western Conference so crazy tight and teams starving for scoring it is shaping up to be perfect storm!
The Islanders have PLENTY of prospects in the pipeline so a 1st rd pick in the 20s isnt a huge loss IMO if you can add pieces for Vanek that fill needs that you can internally going forward.
Oh and Vanek will be on a line centered by Mikael Granlund AKA Finnish Jesus and with Jason Pominville on the other side for the next 5 years! |

I've noticed. He talks about hockey.. but in a way that a kid with extreme comprehension issues and a case of mild Tourettes would. Not too mention the lack of punctuation, spelling, capitalization, etc. |
