this is what it is... a trade where both fanbases don't care what the return is, just happy to be rid of their player. - DoubleDown
a perfect trade... a team who cant score gets a d-man and a team who cant defend gets a forward....
this screams blockbuster..... not
oh well, chalk it up to slow news day. |

minor league players on mediocore teams, these guys wouldn't even play on the 4th line for contending powerhouse teams such as the pens, hawks, shark, leafs etc. - sensnucksnocups
yeah, I agree. These kind of players ... um, wait. Did you say Leafs?

I remember last year when Diaz was starting to break out a little bit offensively. How is he defensively? - Boinker
He's undersized, he plays very timid/soft in his own end like he is scared of getting hit, managed only 20 hits in 46 games. Also makes poor passes in the defensive end, he was the one who sent that sui to Eller in the playoffs.
Offensively he's a alright passer but can't hit the net for poop, so be prepared to be extremely frustrated with him on the PP and constantly missing the net |

Montreal is the opposite. can defend, but can't score. |

This has me thinking of a precursor to a bigger trade. None of our dmen are out long term so after the Olympic break there'll be a logjam. Look for Edler to be moved. |

Diaz is useless player for Habs.
Weise will take Parros spot. for Diaz it was a player like Weise or a 5th round pick.
Minor deal. Minor improvements. Nothing more.

At least Diaz will learn in Vancouver to check when a player from another team ventures besides him skating towards the goalie...
Weise, is a rugged tough fast player to play against when he is not grumbling and plays. |

Hainsey falls under the "puck moving" category? That category is getting pretty big. - Fols19
My thoughts exactly, and I'm a Flyers fan. 'Canes fans - is Hainsey anything more than a solid, stay-at-home D-man? I mean, don't the Flyers have enough slow-footed D-men? |

The Flyers need to trade Couture or B.Schenn and get a decent D-man. Yandle, Ehrhoff or Edler would be good options |

http://www.habseyesonthep...trading-him-was-a-mistake
Diaz IS kinda soft. But as a defensive "stick-checker" D ala Markov, he was actually pretty effective. Don't take my word for it, just check his stats on the link I sent : he was actually a bit better than Emelin in his own zone, and MUCH more than Bouillon or Murray.
Still think Diaz has a lot more value than what we traded for. You need some, but not EVERY defenseman on one team need to be hulking big-hitter ... |

And those two guys are really untouchable, so they will have to wait for a FA D man, or let thier draft picks develop...which for this club is the right answer becasue 1 Dman today does not make them a serious contender |

Yandle is the only guy there worth one of those guys. Edler is a defensive disaster and Ehrhoff is just another average defender, he is slowly declining

Advantage: Vancouver. - As_I_See_It
In Montreal Diaz was afraid to go into the corners, what is he going to do out west?
I don’t care that he is gone, but at least we should have gotten a pick.

C.Ehrhoff = P.Martin. You can always use a guy like him.
The time to trade "Ron Francis Jr" has passed. He was supposed to get dealt for Yandle a couple years ago. Management blew it. |

Least goals against per 60 minutes of ice time among current Habs players, despite playing against top-6 players and starting way more shifts in the defensive zone than the offensive zone. "Soft" or not, he was effective in stopping the opposition from scoring, which is all that matters. |
