I'd do that for sure - burn
would Pitts?
Niskanen is a +28 and has almost double Kulemin's points.
Not a player you unload for a playoff run especially for an impeding UFA. |

Even next year, they are only 16.5 mill. Not bad for a #1 line in the NHL. - bixll
Agreed. Assuming Bozak doesnt continue on this point pace for his career but hes really proving many wrong. All the Bozak haters have been really quite lately. |

Niskanin isnt a liability I don't think, in the same way as Gards or franson . |

Mostly due to the fact that he only sees PP and not much PK time, and played the first half of the season on the first, a bit of the second, line. |

he is very much like gardiner.. strong skating with good offensive vision
but hell in his own end.
i'd take him over franson i guess... be an upgrade on the skating at least. |

the leafs already have this type of d-man and plenty of them
other than that its a reasonable proposal.
we need guys who are good in their own end.. we already have rielly, gardiner and franson who are all offense first guys - Dozzer
I'm not going to say that Niskanen is a world beater but he's better in his end then any of those guys are and has gotten better every year he's been in Pittsburgh. He's turned into a very solid defenseman on both sides of the ice. The Pens need a player like Kulemin too. It would be nice if the Pens could somehow get McClement out of there too but Idon't think Nonis is interested in picks. |

He would be on pace for 72 points if he hadn't missed a bunch of games. |

Kulemin for Niskanen
Toronto needs defense badly and can score plenty goals so they can give up a forward for a top 4 defenseman. Both players are 'rentals' andcould be resigned by both teams at a fair rate.
Maple Leafs aren't going to get a top pairing guy so stop dreaming about Shea Weber because the asking price will be extreme (Top6 forward with term/Top4 defenseman - which they don't have/Level-A prospect/1st rd pick). - quinnjj
I dont see them moving Kule honestly. If they continue to build up a nice cushion in the playoff race they will use Kule as their own rental. Some people need to realize that this isnt fantasy hockey. |

this is just like franson last season
sheltered minutes and given a lot of offensive zone starts. |

Toronto needs these guys just as much as the Penguins. The Leafs are dealing from a position of strength at the moment, so the deal has to without a doubt improve the team. |
