This is a statement made by someone who doesn't pay any attention at all to the islanders. Many always assume guys are hating being on Long Island. We have heard for years how JT would leave, Nabby would run out of here.. Weight couldn't wait to leave.. Every player who plays on Long Island if he is offered the $ stays. Period.. Never has anyone who played here left when offered a deal.
- niteislander

No... I'm basing on what he's hinted at... It's not secret he would ideally like to play in Minnesota.

i was really hoping he would stay , isles need some outside help while some of their youth develops

yes its great to have top picks, but having players for them to play with helps them leaps and bounds

We could of told you that when we traded him to you. Thanks for moulson by the way, no idea how long we will keep him for but needless to say he's one of my favorite players.

you best believe JT is gonna leave via UFA if this sh!tshow continues for you guys.

i don't think JT will still accept the whole "but we have awesome prospects waiting to make the jump soon" excuse 5 years from now.

- rangerdanger94

good to have the idiocy back... yes JT is dying to leave. That is why he signed a 6 year contract extension. He hates it here.... hates it.

Well let's hope the Islanders can get back what they paid to get Vanek? Moulson & a 1st & 2nd with the right to push the 1st to next season if it's a top 10 pick this season, which obviously it will be.

- striker777

you serious, Clark?

You guys are in for a world of hurt... with Buf already having retained part of his salary.. NYI cannot retain any more to make him fit into another team's salary cap... I don't know who would be willing to trade assets for a stubborn player who has turned down to Max offers...

i believe he is a UFA after his current deal expires.
- rangerdanger94

My bad, right you are. But still, I fully expect them to extend him for 8 years in July of 2017.

He has also "hinted" he likes it here... bottome line is I don't see Minn doing another huge contract after crying so much about money after signing Parise and Suter. .... I have been wrong before... they lost Heatley money after this year and maybe that factors into it... I would say he ends up somewhere else though..

I will be very happy if we move him for something we actually NEED. Defensemen or Goalie. which is what Snow should have traded Moulson and those picks for to begin with in the first place.

He isn't dying to leave, but like any professional athlete, you play to win. GUARANTEED, if the Isles do not turn this around and into a contending team over the duration of his contract, he will leave no question. This applies to most athletes, regardless of team or sport.

i think there is a reason behind him signing an extension that will leave him a UFA on the earliest day he'd be eligible for it. it was kind of a "i'm an RFA and i really want to win here so i'll sign an extension that takes me to unrestricted free agency and if we still suck then, i have the chance to walk" deal.

The return for him will be good, just depends on what Snow pushes for.

I am still not sold on that NYI is gonna push their 1st to Buffalo until next year.. I bet NYI finishes at about #6 or 7...

This draft is not considered to be deep at all after the top 4 picks and not of the top 4 picks in this year's draft would even crack the top 5 in next year's draft it sounds like.

Either way NYI has already dealt their 2nd rounder this year and next year.. if I was NYI.. I would give Buf the pick this year regardless because with how good next year's draft is supposed to be.. you don't want to not have a pick until the 3rd round.

we will see. the islanders have been saying for a few years now that they have excellent talent waiting in their pipeline and so far, it seems like only okposo and hamonic (who has taken a step back) have emerged to be true impact NHL players.

what a disaster deal by snow. they aren't gonna get back what they paid for him (top 5 pick, probably, and a top six forward).

if he turned down that kind of money, it's obvious that anyone trading for him probably won't be able to re-sign him.....he obviously has a team in mind.......so nobody is gonna give up much to sign him, relatively speaking.

how does garth snow still have a job?

- sensarmy_11

To be fair, the writing was on the wall pre-trade. A bunch of Sabres fans were basically calling this from the get-go because Vanek did the same thing to us. I didn't want them to trade Vanek but when he did, and I saw the return, I was kind of happy about it. We offered him a max contract in the summer, a captain's C, and the ability to stay in the town he liked being in and he turned it down. Vanek is not a flashy guy, he isn't into the glitz of NYC. He also displayed visible disdain when he was presented with the C and asked if he was excited about it. Just about the only thing going for NYI was that Tavares is a good linemate to have but, I think a lot of Sabres fans that know Thomas were pretty convinced that wouldn't be enough to keep him around. Vanek is a pretty fickle and stubborn dude, so he's only going to do exactly what he wants and nothing more.

Anyways, I hope you guys are able to trade him for something, and I know this is a disappointing turn of events, but I guess moving to Brooklyn and hopefully spending a ton of money will eventually be able to turn the ship around. I still don't see why Snow couldn't have traded for a goalie post-Vanek trade, it seems like it would've made a world of difference.

They've got Pulock and Reinhart who could potentially be a nice top pair. I've VERY high on Pulock.

you honestly think they'll keep it this year, and give up the chance of maybe getting mcdavid next year?

this years draft is one of the weakest in recent memory, even within the top 10....and next years draft is projected to be one of the better ones.

there is no guarantee that the isles will be much better next year then this year......IMO, they'd be dumb to give up their pick next year.

they do have pulock and reinhart, but as defensemen, they're development won't be linear and it will take them longer to become bonafide top-pairing impact players. they will probably have some growing pains the first few years they are in the league.

and again, there's no guarantee that they both reach their ceiling.
