So no other GM has a chance with Charles as owner?

for every miss I can name a lot more hits.. fyi.
- niteislander

If you look at teams in the league that went through quick rebuilds, they draft hits in round 4-7 a lot. Not sure garth has many hits past the 1st round though im not 100% sure.

They should put Bailey's face next to passenger. It's not unacceptable, since no one is ever held accountable.

Maybe having to trade Vanek means Cappy being let go this offseason since Charles and co will need something to distract from no Vanek and trouble signing top FA's?

you would be 100% wrong.. but thanks for playing. Just for fun lets look at the 2008 draft where Garth moved down twice and gained picks. Instead of drafting Filatov and Luke Schenn... he ended up with Bailey, Hamonic, Poulin, Matt martin, Ulstrom, Ness, Donovan, still have the rights to Petrov, ... also drafted Dibo and Spurgeon who are both in NHL. .. That is one draft with almost 10 guys who are in the NHL.. or will be...

2009.. First round.. JT, moved up to grab DeHaan.. then took Koskinen and Nilsson .. 4th round Casey Cizicas.. 6th round Anders Lee.

In other words.. u have no idea what u are talking about.

I'm curious as to what kind of return Snow will look for. Is he going to try for as many picks/prospects or perhaps a 1-for-1 with another decent scorer for JT?
- Sabresfan-365

It doesn't matter what or who. He will LOSE on this deal like almost every other one he's made.

Is there ANYONE left who STILL thinks Garth is the man for the job? Can't imagine how you can explain this one. Do we really blame the coliseum or is it because this is a joke of an organization between GM & coaches? Ray Charles could SEE this.

I hope so. The guy has had NO success at any professional level. It's a joke that he's still the coach. The team is 6 games under .500 and on a 5 game losing streak. They've already had a 10 game losing streak this season. He must have the dirt on someone in the front office to still be employed.

He turned it down because he will get 8 million per to play somewhere else. If he doesn't get it he will ask to be brought back. By that point we would have already signed Scott Gomez and Brad Boyes.

Chris Botta (@ChrisBottaNHL) tweeted at 2:42 PM on Mon, Feb 03, 2014: Told that Thomas Vanek is well aware he may be leaving $ on the table. He knows he may not get 50/7 from his teams of choice.

I don't think the Islanders are too far off from being a contender. Sure, they need a few pieces, particularly on the backline, but that is a hockey team with alot of good parts. I get that Vanek wants to play the field, but signing long term with a team that will provide you with the opportunity to play on the flank with one of the Top 5 players in the game seems like a pretty good situation to me. But, to each his own I guess.

I meant the Isles cannot explain this one away. He doesn't want to be a part of this team, despite having one of the best players in the game as his pivot. It's not the coliseum or the fans or anything OTHER than a complete lack of confidence in the management to field a contending team. The players know it. The agents know it. We know it. CHARLES, PLEASE SELL OR CLEAN HOUSE.

No, they arent. All we really need is a real GM and a REAL Coach.

And, a couple of serviceable NHL defensemen. They need those, because along with the things you mentioned, that is holding them back right now.

Isles cannot spin this in any positive way. You have a great young star with JT and plenty of Cap room and more good young talent on the way and moving to Brooklyn in year and still cannot close the deal with Vanek? Losing Smyth and now Vanek is a pattern.

And like 5-6 NHL camber players.
They are a 1 line team, soon to be 2/3 line team.

And let's all be honest here- Vanek will not get more on the open market, he simply wants nothing to do with that organization.

you missed the point.

he has a specific place in mind; it has nothing to do with the islanders...or the sabres for that matter.
