if not vanek it would have been moulson...only difference is if moulson would have accepted an "offer" isles would have overpaid. - LetsGoIsles
Moulson would be here for 6 million. Definitely not breaking the bank of a team with all this cap space. |

This nonsense is going to continue as long as Snow and Wang are running things. This pattern has repeated itself over and over again since 06-07: finish in the bottom five (except last year), trade vets for picks/prospects, make offers to UFA's only to have them turn you down. The only guys who stayed were guys like Vis and Nabby, who weren't getting good offers anywhere else due to their ages. The only thing that will stop this cycle of s**t is a) Wang selling or b) this team starting to win again. I Don't see any of that happening any time soon. - Jethro09
If this latest rejection does not point to change being needed, I do not know what does? Unless Wang sells we are stuck with him so it falls to changing the GM and coach. |

It may have dropped, but his value is not low. Look at the Iginla trade last season: Pitt gave up a ton for a guy not producing or as productive as Vanek is. The isles should be able to get a similar package for Vanek this year. - Jethro09
Pitt gave up a late 1st rd pick, and two "C" prospects (both taken 3rd rd or later, with little chance of even making the NHL, let alone having an impact)
i'd hardly call that "a ton" |

His trade value just went down. Teams now know he wants to test UFA regardless of offers. - mighty13duck
I stated earlier that they should allow teams to talk to his agent, increase his trade value based on willingness to sign extension. |

The GM has to go. He failed making this team better from a year ago. We are on pace for another top five pick, which he traded for a player who he didn't even offer full value on to stay. It is a complete circus right now. |

SO now the Isles need a #1 winger, a #2 winger # new d mean and two new goalies for next season. I say we should give Buffalo the pick this year since it seems like we will be competing for first overall next season. |

with vanek not resigning with the islanders, come the offseason, if the isles sign moulson for 6 million a year, THAT would be a huge mistake. |

"C" according to who? Besides, that's still a first and two prospects. If the bidding involves multiple teams, a late first and a solid "D-man" or goaltender are not out of the question. |

this is a great idea...unless of course his agent is only looking at 1 team...that would KILL the bidding war. |

Nelson wouldn't be terrible as a first line player but that leaves us with no second line. |

Vanek is the top UFA and then there is Boyes. |

hockey's future actually had them both rated as "d" for probability of success....add that to their actual draft position (one was a 3rd rd pick, and i believe the other was a 5th).....and that leads me to believe that their chances of even making the NHL are slim.
it's not like iginla was traded for a top 10 pick, and 2 "can't miss prospects".
that being said, i think what you suggested as a possible return for vanek is probably pretty close. but that being said, it won't be a starting goalie, or an established NHL d-man....at least not from a contending team.
you'd probably get a young bottom pairing guy with top 4 potential, or a young backup goalie |

ahhahahahaahah.. yeah that is the goal for every team. Second round or bust. You hang your hat on that. ... you were "cup favorites" last year and u got into the playoffs in the last game of the year. You squeeked by the first round b/c of that game where u had 5 PP and caps had none... congrats on that second round. Well done!! - niteislander
Yeah because everyone goes 20 years then just wins the Cup with no experience |

Old news we are talking about Vanek Snow and Wang now. The Isles rangers debate was two days ago. |

Our best trade partner atm is the ducks. Vanek would be a force for them and they have plenty of goalies they can ship without it having an effect on them. |

Simple, If he won't sign, package and get a good return for your money. Screw him. Trade to whoever, or does he have a NTC. |

Have to think the Ducks or Kings would be good trade partners. |

We need cappy gone and snow as well. Bring in a real NHL head coach and someone who will act to make this team better by addressing the defense and goaltending. - Isles_since_6
I just can't believe that duo continues to be employed....just awful. |
