not interested in anderson. I want someone who's playing well, young enough to stick for half a decade and not suddenly decline. I would not throw away Vanek for a goaltender having an awful season and hope he found his game behind our shoddy defense.
- Isles_since_6

would they want a goalie to play in teh NHL right now.....or a higher end goalie prospect, who'd be ready in a year or two.

sens have another swedish goalie....marcus hogberg.....played for sweden at world jr's

also, chris driedger.....should have been at world jr's, but was cut due to the stupid "can only take so many players from any one league" policy

both guys are 19, and both look to be VERY good goalie prospects

gotta wonder if vanek is gone before tomorrows game and if not how he will be handled... i wonder how the crowd will treat him if he is still an islander on thursday...could be a bloodbath.
- LetsGoIsles

If he's not traded, he may get scratched. Avoid risking injury and the circus that would develop at the NVMC and around the team with Vanek clearly on his way out.

fire snow?
- Barx

We need cappy gone and snow as well. Bring in a real NHL head coach and someone who will act to make this team better by addressing the defense and goaltending.

Risky move by Garth Snow doesn't pay off. Can't get back what you paid for him.

Goalie to play in the NHL right now. No more prospects. We have our own prospects and can't wait four or five years for one to develop. We need a capable, above-average NHL goaltender now.

Strome hurt in AHL other day... so glad we sent him down so he could play during the olympic break.
- niteislander

Alrite so this Strome kid, I see he does well in the AHL and didn't exactly have a great first stint in the bigs. You guys still high on him?

What's the point in playing him those two games? To try and win the games? They re out of it. They don't need to showcase him. Everyone In Hockey knows what Vanek is and what he's capable of. Hey dress him and have a circus develop around the team and Vanek with the fans booing him and media asking questions Vanek will not want to, not should he be forced to answer about the contract offer?

Injury risk is the biggest reason why I trade him this week. Same for Amac. Going to be some very grumpy crowd with Vanek and another lost season.

They should move Vanek and a-Mac when the price is at its highest. Whether that is now or after the Olympics remains to be seen. Get multiple teams bidding on Vanek and drive the price up. Scratch Vanek until he is moved. No hard feeling, just a good business decision. Keep playing a-Mac until he's traded. Between a-Mac and Vanek, the isles should get some decent pieces back for another wonderful summer of "re-building" and watching the league's best players sign with teams other than the isles.

They can't scratch him. Any game he would get scratched his trade value drops each time. Let him play. Hopefully he puts more points up, scouts like what they see.

His trade value just went down. Teams now know he wants to test UFA regardless of offers.

I disagree. His trade value will only drop if he gets hurt. Everyone in hockey knows what Vanek is. Hey don't need to showcase him. If he gets hurt, his value plummets. It doesn't go up if he gets a couple of points over the next two or three games.

Going to be tough to scratch Vanek until you trade him. More critics saying look how the Isles treat players and even more FA's staying away. More rebuilding.

It may have dropped, but his value is not low. Look at the Iginla trade last season: Pitt gave up a ton for a guy not producing or as productive as Vanek is. The isles should be able to get a similar package for Vanek this year.

I have no idea what Minnesota really has to offer us, but maybe a trade and an extension would work.
And this point, best I expect to get back is a 1st and a high mid-to-high ceiling prospect.

Jethro....good points. I just think scratching him makes a bad situation worse.

This nonsense is going to continue as long as Snow and Wang are running things. This pattern has repeated itself over and over again since 06-07: finish in the bottom five (except last year), trade vets for picks/prospects, make offers to UFA's only to have them turn you down. The only guys who stayed were guys like Vis and Nabby, who weren't getting good offers anywhere else due to their ages. The only thing that will stop this cycle of s**t is a) Wang selling or b) this team starting to win again. I Don't see any of that happening any time soon.

This situation will ways be bad. I can just see the circus and nonsense taking place at the NVMC if Vanek is on the ice for the first game at home following this announcement. It won't be pretty.

if not vanek it would have been moulson...only difference is if moulson would have accepted an "offer" isles would have overpaid.
