Do you have any hispanic decent? I get advertisements for Jdate. I've never even visited the website. It's like they somehow find out your background and throw that particular singles site to you.

They seem to be doing better in the later round recently though. There was a stretch where they got very little after round 1. At least now they have guys like Stolarz, Ghost, Hagg, Vasiliev, Lauridson who all have NHL potential.

I think they hit a 3 bagger with this pick. I hope hes in our top4 within the next 3 years

I intended to bold Vasilev, if it didnt work, im referring to him

I don't run to advanced stats but they are valid to support things with players & a teams play.

So much so teams employee people to help them as a team & to determine who the re-sign, sign, & even draft.

To go a step further junior teams are even using them to determine who they draft from minor midget programs into their respective leagues. Like it or not they are here to stay so either you understand them or you continue to go against the grain of what the rest of the sport is moving towards if not at that point already.

Should we be happy our top pick throws broken sticks into crowds? What's he need to work on on the ice?

very interesting articles concerning advanced stats and their use.

http://blogs.edmontonjour...-wrong-with-some-players/

http://www.thepensblog.co...the-need-for-context.html

http://www.rawcharge.com/...4331/oh-god-not-the-stats

And interesting tidbit from the above article

"Second, don't draw conclusions beyond what the data is designed to measure. Corsi does not equal performance. Neither does any other stat. In fact, puck possession doesn't equal performance."

http://www.arcticicehocke...-advance-hockey-analytics

From the above article

"In any event, keeping this sort of framework in mind when using Corsi data is probably something that could be helpful to people. Corsi’s not the only thing in the world and sometimes players with negative Corsi are good in their roles while guys with positive Corsi aren’t really."

I disagree completely. The cause of why the numbers are why they are is open to interpretation. Hockey is a team game, and cannot isolate Grossmann as the only variable. And that can be proven out by simply discussing the scenarios. The numbers don't and cannot eliminate the other players from the equation. Simply can't be done.
I have not at anytime disputed that the Flyers face 2.5 shots against for every shot they take when Grossmann is on the ice. I'm disputing that Grossmann is the sole reason for that. And how the stats are being used out of context and used improperly when looking at Grossmann and his play. And that can be proven out with video and the aptly named "eyeball" test.

So, in a few of your recent post you have been explaining why even posting stats are just "opinion"... if that is the case, then how come you demand stats from other people when they simply share a raw opinion?

You basically call them out for not using factual stats to back up their own opinions, while in another argument stating stats are useless and the eyes are what truly determine a players worth...

I'm just so confused.

I didn't call anyone out for not using factual stats. I simply asked for a stat that shows that that Grossmann's blocked shots are the result of his own blown coverages. Which is a stat that as far as I know does not exist. It was rhetorical to prove a point. And I've never stated that stats are useless. The interpretations of the stat and what they tell us is where the opinion comes in, and where confirmation bias is an issue.

That is about where the impressive numbers end. In the analytics and advanced-stats world, Simmonds would not be lauded as an MVP-caliber player. He is the 247th ranked player in the NHL in relative Corsi percentage - the Flyers get 0.6 percent fewer shot attempts when he is on the ice compared to when he is on the bench, according to ExtraSkater.com.

Corsi is used as a way to help simply explain puck possession - a valuable stat since you can't attempt to shoot when you don't have it, and you can't win without shooting. He also starts more of his shifts than not already in the offensive zone, and the quality of competition he is facing is about average for the league.

How much will Niskanen get in free agency this summer? I wonder if it will be north of what Carle got from the Lightning.
