Seriously, if I see Brodeur in a Penguins sweater and Jagr in a Devils sweater in the same calendar year, I'm going to have a cerebral collapse.

I've been joking with my friends for some months that the Penguins should acquire Marty. If you wouldn't start Marty over Fleury, you must be the coach of Team USA.

We have more needs than Brodeur as you are aware of.

Yea the old Marty may have been great years ago... but lately he has blown. Why would any team consider giving up assets on a player that might even make the goalie situation worse. A goalie like Miller or Ward would be a safer (but more expensive) option.

Wow,talk about disrespect for one of the best goalies ever.

Its your opinion though

It's no disrespect. He is a company guy and if he can help Lou and the Devils by obtaining a draft pick or prospect he will. And Lou would not trade him just anywhere.

Eklund I do not understand the teams you've mentioned having any interest in Brodueur. He wouldn't even be an upgrade over anyone to tell you the honest truth. The guys just clinging to the last little bit of hockey he has left in him. If he is traded it will be for an upgrade on a backup or to sell tickets.

That would be the point of including the Penguins in this... As much as I cringe at the thought of depending on Fleury to win in the post season..... Marty wouldnt be starting over Fleury and if the Pens had to turn to Brodeur in the playoffs, they would probably be toast anyway. Still, Marty would be a back up in Pittsburgh, not a starter (barring MAF injury).

But the Pens have more pressing needs than a back up goalie. Zatkoff OK for regular season, and Vokoun on the road back. Some help on the wing (for Sid's line or to bolster bottom 6 forward depth) is much more important...

Where ever Marty ends up he will be the starter come playoff time. Otherwise he will not be moved. Simple as that.

I'd much rather acquire Niklas Backstrom from Minny.

Pittsburgh should probably just acquire as much scoring as possible. They could get marginally better bottom six forwards but February is too late to start trying to play cohesive, responsible team defense.

i thought that MAF was a bit star struck in 2008 against detroit. but then he won the cup in 2009. i thought that once he won, the self inflicted wounds would lessen. He has not had a strong post season since winning the cup. It if wasnt for vokoun, they would have lost the series against the islanders. while fleury is the winningest goalie over the last 5 years in the regular season, he has 4 exits prematurely in the playoffs. he needs to be the goalie he was in 09 and i dont think thats possible so i am ok with trading for a goalie. i am not comfortable with him and zatkoff in the playoffs. but if they score the same amount of goals this yr in the playoffs that they did last yr, they are out in the 1st round anyway.

lol does he think he's still a star or something? He needs to get over himself. He wouldn't be a starter on any team.

Absolutely, Bcs EK says so.

Love to hear people say he's washed up. He's has a few rough games but this is a goalie we went from playing 60 games a year to playing every 4th game. Not easy. Guy shut down Montreal a few weeks ago. Add that he's still the best stick handling goalie in the league. Bottom line is he'd be a great pick up. But if history is any indication, Lou will keep him and Devs will once again get squat for a player who will not be on next years roster.

Hes always injures. Hence the rumor of Minny being in on a possible Marty trade.

If Brodeur gets traded, would be a great goalie for a team to have him help with younger goalies and also a good back up goalie.

I would not be surprised to see Brodeur become a good goalie coach for 2014- 2015 season.

He has no interest in becoming a goalie coach. He will hold a position in the front office.

1) There is no statistical evidence that I am aware of that suggests goalies play worse when they don't play a lot of games. There is more statistical variability for backups (since fewer games played means a smaller sample and more likelihood of numbers much better -- or much worse -- than can be realistically sustained), but in the aggregate getting a lot of starts does not seem to be better for your performance than practicing regularly but starting fewer games.

2) This is the second straight year that Brodeur's numbers have been terrible and the fourth straight year that they've at least been definitively below league average. In the last three seasons he was playing roughly 2/3 of his team's minutes; this year he's played just under half. When it was Hedberg competing against Brodeur for the stats it was easier to shrug off his declining play, but now that the Devils have a legitimately good goalie again for arguably the first time since about 2010 it should be obvious to all but the most blindly loyal fans that Brodeur just isn't a very good NHL goalie anymore.

I wouldn't say he's "washed up" necessarily, but I don't think any real contender would want to risk turning to him unless they a had an injury or two and were really, really desperate.

I am happy with Kessel. Hopefully he and JvR slow down just in time for the Olympics, only to come back pissed off at Canada and take it out on the whole league.
