top pairing D are not that hard to FIND. they are hard to TRADE for.

You have to give up something of equal value. Usually a first line player. If EDM really wants a top Dman, they'll have to pony up the goods. And no, Hemsky, Gagner, Smyth, etc are not the goods that get you that type of player.

Lateral move that they didn't have to make, imo. career Minor leaguer and a decent prospect's rights for the type of guy they could just claim off waivers. Not to mention it sounds like Fraser's injuries have really diminished his play.

I think with injuries out there someone was going to give the leafs a pick at least. And that would be assuming Fraser would be the guy on waivers could easily be Ranger.

Seems like a deal that reasonable for both sides. Oilers get a guy that certainly is willing to drop the gloves, block shots, and is pretty tough. That whole skull injury still is pretty shocking. And Leafs get a bit of potential but mostly just get cap space and something for a guy they would have had to waive once guys start coming off the IR.

So works out for just about everyone. Hopefully things go well for Fraser out in Edmonton.
