When the team traded for Hendricks they went ballistic. He has been exactly what the Oilers needed. These are strange times on the Sphere. - Matt_Henderson
Yeah I was thinking the same things then.
It seems to me that some Oiler Bloggers and fans should pull away from NHL14. It's not realistic to have Mike Richards as a 4th line center and Kris Letang as a #5 defenseman. |

worse than fistric. Basically a 7/8.
doesn't hurt to get Crapney off the books but I always thought Harti'd eventually come back - TheNugeIsHuge
I thought so too, but i wonder how much him being in the K is on him or the Oilers. If he just wanted regular playing time even on the 3rd/4th line, surely the Oilers and him would have agreed to a deal. Thinking maybe he wanted 2nd/3rd line minutes minimum because i don't believe managment thought he was worse than what we throw in the bottom six from time to time. |

I don't like too many people think that way. It's more that Hendricks had a big contract and judging off his play in WSH/NSH, that it was fair to say he wasn't worth acquiring, and that the Oilers could possibly stand to do better player evaluations even on 4th liners. |

Not that I wanted either of those guys on the Leafs, I wish they had thrown in Ranger, Clarkson, Gunnarson and Kulemin in with the deal, All they'd need back is a bag of pucks.
He's no Ranger, that's for sure. - JohnFergusonJr

top pairing D are not that hard to FIND. they are hard to TRADE for.
You have to give up something of equal value. Usually a first line player. If EDM really wants a top Dman, they'll have to pony up the goods. And no, Hemsky, Gagner, Smyth, etc are not the goods that get you that type of player.
Think, Eberle for Keith Yandle |

Hartikainen skates like he has cement in his skates, has hands of Horcoff and the physical game of JFJ.

Or they can try Burking a top pairing d-man with a bunch of spare parts. |

I can agree with that. Especially your last sentence.
It just seems to me that some of these people live or die by the Oilers moves and if the Oilers aren't making the deals to fill obvious holes that it is a failure.
Sometimes depth moves like the Hendricks trade and this Fraser trade are just moves that have to be made to improve the team overall and shed some of the gangrene players/prospect that fester on an organization. |

Well, hendricks has been better than expected so that's kind of worked out. Fraser again is similar, I just feel we play a lot of musical chairs with our depth players and it seemingly goes nowhere. My gripe with Fraser is that he's apparently been playing hurt this season. |

In all fairness to that trade, Stajan was thought to be a young centre with top 6 "potential", White was a good, young, offensive D that already had 9 goals and 17 As that season, we all loved him as a Leaf when he was here, and Hagman was coming off a 22 goal season in 65 games after a 27 goal season in 82 games the year before that. Mayers was a throw in for contractual reasons.
Calgary looked to have gotten two top 6 YOUNG forwards, a top 4 young offensive D, AND some bottom six grit for a behemoth contract and a player that they felt didn't fit their team atmosphere. |

Hagman was 30, Not young.
Stajan was 26, and while people didn't expect him to drop off like he did, he wasn't expected to ever be much more than a 2nd/3rd line kinda guy, White was 25, and it sucked losing him, but again, he wasn't considered a potential top pairing guy, he was a 2nd/3rd pairing guy.
Phaneuf and Aulie where the youngest players in the deal, and Sjostrom was way better than Mayers in the bottom-6 role.
Pure theft. |

Everything but Sjostrom. That dude was the most useless player I've seen in blue and white since Rickard Wallin. |

No way, guy was fantastic defensively. Not great offensively, by any means, but light years ahead of Mayers. |

This move was little for little. That's it. The Oil get someone to replace whoever they can pawn off at the TDD and the Leafs get an expiring contract and the rights to a guy who may be able to play in the NHL someday.
Can we stop talking about it yet? |
