FFS Mac T just traded away a good joke

With Fraser coming I think its bye bye for nultz

Wow people in my accounting class are morons saying Petry is terrible and this trade is garbage

Guess that shows you don't need brains to be in business

Oilers fans generally seem to attach to one player or another whether he's actually good or not. My god, the clamor about Schremp took YEARS to die down.

I know.

The emotional ties to Hartikainen should have been severed when he opted to the KHL instead of the Barons.

Well if this gets nick Schultz out the door than I'm happy.

I don't know if hartikainen will ever play in the NHL anyways so I'm okay with it.

Fraser could come in and end up putting up better corsi numbers. At least enough to beat nick Schultz.

This trade isn't a bad one nor is it good it's a depth move making it easier to trade a defensman and have a short term stop gap

- CrustyRooster

People really need to shut up about corsi.

Some of the Oiler bloggers "CoughCopper&BlueCough" seem absolutely devastated by this trade and I don't know why.

Hartikainen might be an NHL player at some point in the future. Key word is might. He might be a good third liner or 4th line player.

Abney will never be an NHL player, ever. I watched him with the Oil Kings and he was barely a WHL player. He wasn't good at punching people in the face and being punched in he face I doubt he would have even been there.

Fraser at least once in a while can play in the NHL. Something of which neither Hartikainen or Abney were going to do for the Oilers this year.

Mark Fraser isnt a great player and lacks a lot of the skills that the Oilogoshpere covets the most (Puck moving, Shot Attempt prevention, etc).

Combine that with the fact that the Oilers have already tried a few of Eakins' Marlies with no success and several years of adding low-skill tough guys with equally low success and moves like this rub them the wrong way.

Not like he isn't a replaceable part anyways.

I think you are going to be disappointed with hockey coverage over the next 5 years because every study suggests it is incredibly important and the data is available to us now.

I understand that, but like I said. He can be used in the NHL in a pinch. Neither Abney or Hartikainen can be right now and doubt that either of them will be.

It's not like the Oilers traded Markus Naslund for Alex Stojanov.

It was mentioned in the blog. It is fair to use it as a tool. It's not a be all end all of who is good and not, but it shouldn't be cast aside as a nothing stat. Corsi in a way is a better representation than +\- is anyways

I just don't think advanced stats are accurate enough in a sport like hockey. That's all lowe tide talks about. Wasn't Belov the highest corsi guy on our team at some point and in my opinion he was awful.

A third line with some size. That is almost harder to find than a legit top pairing defenseman or top line center.

Except you forget that he is not in the NHL he's in the KHL and probably will stay there

No it's sarcasm.

That is part of the reason why I don't understand some of he outcry against this trade. Hartikainen was probably never going to play in an Oilers jersey and Abney will probably never wear any NHL jersey but people were screaming like the Oilers traded Hall and Eberle for Craig Adams.

Well the advanced stats (I would prefer they be called Secondary Stats) certainly arent perfect but something like Corsi is a significant improvement on plus/minus and can actually be used to extrapolate scoring chances. I am very interested in the direction the numbers guys take it.

Basically, this trade boils down to an AHL defenseman for a KHLer unlikely to come over and a ECHLer unlikely to even make it to the AHL.

Leafs clear cap space as injured players come back, Oilers clear contract space and get a somewhat useable player.

You missed the sarcasm too. Hartikainen is the definition of replaceable. A top line center is not.

Advanced stats need to be taken as a whole. Corsi metrics on their own are flawed. JMO.

Well I tried to touch on Fraser's Corsi, trad points, hits and blocked shots, and style of play.

I think its a great move to get rid of 2 garbage contracts and potentially get a serviceable replacement for nultz

I liked Fraser last year. Plays a simple game but he's tough as nails and will drop the gloves if need be
- robin_steele264

Agree with this.he was actually a fan favorite last year.simple game and tough as (frank). Then he blocked a slap shot with his face (which is kinda the dman every team needs in a wierd way) and just hasn't been close to where he was.if he could get back to that I'd say he's a very serviceable bottom pairing dman
