Being mildly drunk is fine with her. It's just when I slur, stumble, and spill my beer is what infuriates her.

Not even close .

The reality is with the speed, size and strength of today's players the 30th place team in the NHL today would beat the last Leafs Cup winner easily. Johnny Bower would not make the AHL today.

That is just the way it is, every sport evolves and improves. Usain Bolt would jog to the 100 meter win at the Rome Olympics.

By that logic as well, and at the risk of your collective abuse, Phil Kessel is probably the most skilled player in Leaf history. Not the greatest (although some day he could be), or the most valuable, and certainly not a heart and soul guy like Gilmour. But in terms of pure skill, the only guy I can think of that would be close is Alex Mogilny.

I would say it's a toss up between Kessel and Sundin. Different skill sets, so you can't really compare.

So Mogilny > Sundin?
- Not_Stee

Pure skill wise, in my opinion yes. Although Sundin's impact on the franchise was far greater, Mogilny who was at the end of his career in Toronto, could snipe and make plays at the highest level .

Points are only 1 measure but:

Sundin 1,346 games and 1, 349 points= 1.0 points per game

Mogilny: 990 games and 1,032 points = 1.04 points per game

So about equal. Mogilny had seasons with 76 and 55 goals, Sundin never had more than 47.

Not saying I would take Mogilny over Sundin given a choice, but his skills were off the charts

I swear... if Lemieux played as many games as Wayne did, he'd challenge him for the all-time point total.

Plus he didn't have the supporting cast that Gretzky did.

If you could pick one player to start a franchise, and not worry about injury or personality getting in the way, who would it be?

Gretzky, Lemieux, Lindros, Orr, Niedermayer, Lidstrom, Roy, Brodeur... Some pretty ok choices.

Orr, in my humble opinion, the best player who ever lived.

and Brodeur the most over rated.

Let's use a smaller more modern version of this question.

Disregarding age and injury who do you pick first overall to start your franchise?

I would take Datsyuk. (I don't know if that's how I spell his name)

If you mean current NHL players I would select:

Crosby
Stamkos
Ovechkin
Colton Orr
Adam French
