You're right, no point of making a trade mid-season. They're in line for another lottery pick and nothing will make a big enough difference this year. Evaluate everyone throughout this season and make a big trade at the draft..Prob will have to move Yak or Eberle for any significant return tho. RNH and Hall should be untouchables and Gagner they won't get a very good return for.

Thank God Burke didnt share this mentality or we would still have Beauchemin instead of Lupul and Gardiner. Probably Versteeg too. If a trade can improve your team, it doesn't matter what time of the year/season it is. You do it.

Poor Holland, he deserves to stick with the club because he's being playing well since day 1 in a Leafs uniform. Alas, we know how Leafs management works and he will be back at Ricoh in no time.

Id move RNH and his teenage girl frame before I even consider moving eberle.

and Fraser is done after this season as well.

Whole thing strikes me as two teams clearing roster spaces. Edm a guy that KHL bolted and TO a guy that simply got played down the depth chart. Abney was included to keep Edm at 48.

I agree. Tell me, who would the Oilers move at the deadline and get a good return on?

I'm not sure why Edmonton does this deal. It's no massive win for the Leafs or anything...

But even if neither of those guys ever plays a game in Toronto, shedding the cap space is a win.

Smart, low risk move by the Oilers. They are seeing whether or not that guy can fill a 6/7 slot on their team and add some toughness that they've lost over the years. Fistric is a good example of a guy they should have kept.

I said looksee goddammit! I'm not talking about changing the roster! I reward guys who do well in the AHL, that's how I roll. Why I liked Ashton coming up. Brennan is having a season for the ages in the AHL. Does that mean he should be handed a fulltime role in the NHL? No. But should there be a game where Gunnar needs a rest, or Gardiner and Rielly need a message sent, there's your opportunity to play him.
*btw is there still that stupid limit of callups in effect in the NHL?

Burke knew what Beauchemin and Versteeg were. Didn't need time to evaluate them. All Oilers are still fairly young. There's a big difference IMO.
