Are you trying to say that is good? 55 games and 17 goals is the best we got. At that pace the Flyers leading goal scorer will end the season at 25 Goals.... That is crap compared to 1st line players. Top teams are at the top because they got guys who have 25 goals or more. Anaheim has Perry (29 G) and Getzlaf (26 G), Pittsburgh has Crosby (27) and Kunitz (27), Chicago has Kane (25) Sharp (28). Simmonds is our guy at 17 and on pace for 25 but I doubt he will hit it. Goals win hockey games and in the end your top line has to lead by example.

Ignorance truly is bliss, eh?

The Flyers month of October as a whole was pathetic. They started bad, endured a coaching change that should have happened prior to the season. Had a terrible camp.

Well, lets look at what these players have done over the past 44 games (since the 1st of Nov)

Simmonds- 16 goals in 44 games- 30 goal pace
Hartnell- 14 goals in 44 games- 27 goal pace
Giroux- 16 goals in 44 games- 30 goal pace
Schenn-12 goals in 44 games-22 goal pace
Voracek-13 goals in 44 games. -25 goal pace

We really need to find us a guy who can score a goal or something.

I love the Flyers, but sometimes I admit that I can be a little hard on them. However, when I see them play only half of the game, get lazy, or just don't seem to care about their play, I get frustrated. I can understand that the talent has yet to be developed (quite a few young players), however when they don't give a 110%, then I can't excuse that. How much money do you have to make, or how much of a work ethic to you have to possess, before a player starts to actually care about the fans, and the game itself? Did the players in the 70's actually quit during the middle of a game? Did they complain about a split a lip or broke a finger? Did they make a million or more dollars per season? They played because of the love of the game. I just hope that the NHL doesn't become so commercialized, and watered down to where it becomes like the NFL or NBA. I think it's great that the players still get to take the Cup home after the season ends. What other sport does that? I have stopped watching most of the NFL, and NBA games, because they have become more of a reality show than a sport. I can only take so many team celebrations after a tackle. I can only take so may players throwing stuff in the air like the WWE or dunking the ball rather than making a great shot. It's boring, and becomes like watching a regular TV show. I just don't want the NHL to become like that, and that is why I get on the players so much. Take pride in what you do, don't expect to be treated like a god, and play the game because it's special. Don't lose site of that, and quit expanding into crazy markets, and the game won't become a watered down show.
That's why I get frustrated when players don't meet their potential. If you don't want to play the game, and treat the game with respect, then get out of the NHL. Come to play every game folks. Come to play the whole game. That is what has separated the NHL from other sports, in my opinion.
So, wake up Flyers, and start playing every game like it's your last.
Thanks for listening.

And yet, those numbers are still less then the league leaders have right now... just slightly half way though the season...

I mean come on. You take away thier bad start, and still thier top goal scorer is less then what the leage leaders have right now IF you average it out over an 82 game season... Its pathetic. And the only one that does most of the scoring at ES is Schenn, the rest pile up PP goals. Not that we dont need that, but a pure scorer should be able to score more at ES as at PP.

Ovechkin... 38 goals... 14 PP
Perry.. 29 goals...6 PP
Sharp.. 28 goals... 8 pp

Giroux, Simmonds, Hartnell, and Voracek score almost half thier goals on the PP.

Sorry, I could only get through half... ADD, but I dont think this is the case. I think not playing full 60 minutes is just a cop-out by most writers. The fact is they dont look like they play 100% becuase frankly the other teams is better, or steals momentum. I dont have a problem with the teams heart... I have a problem with how its constructed.

Sounds like we could use anyone that doesnt rely on the Refs to call a penality to score a goal. Someone that can pick a corner, or blow past a defenseman....

Hi Guys, Just wanted to give a quick update from yesterday. Thank you all for the support. Shortly after I wrote the post a co-worker came back after his shift and let me go home. My wife was shaken up a bit but eventually calmed down.

She had a biopsy in New Haven Conneticut on Monday, and the results came back as 90% chance the growths are cancerous. The good new is it is Thyroid cancer and this type of cancer has a 95% recovery rate... or so says the internet. Another set of good new is that she is seeing the best surgeron. They will have to remove the Thyroid either way, but this Dr. did the same surgery on Tipper Gore...(of course right... That would be my Liberal wife and her mother....). And she will be treated by a doctor at John Hopkins pre and post surgery.

While it still sucks, we are going to remain upbeat and optomistic. Again, thank you everyone for your well wishs. Now back to hockey...

Thanks for the update, all the best to you and the missus!!

This isn't the year to "go for it". Id like to see the flyers make no moves or moves for the future at the deadline, then reassess in the offseason and put a game plan together that doesn't involve signing the oldest players available.

Those were good times. Pronger, Briere, Richie, cartsey. SCF seem so long ago..

And no I don't have trouble letting go of the past, just feels like a long time since the flyers felt like a contender.

Or, more importantly, we need a guy who can transition defense to offense and get us offensive zone time.

The (again) overstated claim that we need a sniper is bogus. The last FULL regular season saw 4 players put up 40 + goals. 4 total.

Our biggest problem is that we suck 5v5, and thats not because we are missing the all elusive BYOB RYAB

The year the Flyers made their cup run their leading scorer was Jeff Carter with 33 goals. The year the Bruins won the cup.. their leading goal scorer (Milan Lucic) had 30 goals.

fun game to watch. flyers mistakes end up in their net. not so for their opponent. really tired of watching mishandles at the offensive blueline by our d end up as odd man rushes and goals the other way. 9th shortie last night at a crucial time in this exact situation.

i watch the ducks a decent amount - never a whole game - but enough. i don't recall seeing them be this chippy and aggressive all year. it took me all of 2 minutes to hate them last night.

They were infuriating at times, running so hot and cold.

When they were hot though, that was some fun hockey to watch.

Yes it was a fun game to watch. Definitely 2 teams on different levels. I still think the flyers will be better in a year or two, of they can play their cards on defense correctly. They have a lot of youngins still up front.

it was the 2nd time as well. and of course he didn't block the pass at the other end of the ice. i guess there wasn't a lane to shoot, but virtually never shoots the puck from there. teams know he's not really a threat so they pressure him. could have tied the game and it lost it for them.
