Hi Guys, Just wanted to give a quick update from yesterday. Thank you all for the support. Shortly after I wrote the post a co-worker came back after his shift and let me go home. My wife was shaken up a bit but eventually calmed down.

She had a biopsy in New Haven Conneticut on Monday, and the results came back as 90% chance the growths are cancerous. The good new is it is Thyroid cancer and this type of cancer has a 95% recovery rate... or so says the internet. Another set of good new is that she is seeing the best surgeron. They will have to remove the Thyroid either way, but this Dr. did the same surgery on Tipper Gore...(of course right... That would be my Liberal wife and her mother....). And she will be treated by a doctor at John Hopkins pre and post surgery.

While it still sucks, we are going to remain upbeat and optomistic. Again, thank you everyone for your well wishs. Now back to hockey...

My wifes cousin had the same diagnosis and she has been cancer free for over 5 years.

Morin almost hit someone in a wheelchair? That's just ridiculous bad luck and stupidity.

Instead, the Flyers put the final nail in their own coffin by yielding their ninth opposition shorthanded goal of the season (tied with Edmonton for the most in the NHL).

I knew the Flyers had given up quite a few this year, certainly more than any recent season I can remember, but had no idea we're now tied with Edmonton for the most in the NHL. Gotta change that.

Downie couldn't have made a worse read on Perry's goal, and G definitely coasted toward the end of that shortie...I'm guessing both he and Jake were spent.

Good news, man. Sounds like you have very good reasons to be optimistic.

Only you would work politics and "liberal" into the conversation.

why is Kimmo even playing in that game? He was brutal, we have 7 capable defensemen which should afford you the luxury of resting your banged up nearly 40 year old d-man for a game. He is a warrior and I respect that he guts it out but every spring it seems we hear about all the injuries he quietly deals with that effect his play, why not rest him for a game or 2 when these injuries pop up midseason? If Meszarros isn't in for a banged up Timonen or a healthy Grossman on Saturday then I really have to question what Berube is thinking. It seems like Downie and Meszarros are the only ones being held accountable for their play.

This. I didnt see the game, but when Bill says stuff like in order to beat a team.. the Flyers have to play flawless hockey, and Quick wouldnt be considered Elite if he were on the Flyers... This is so telling. The team just isnt good enough as its currently built. Its not systems, its not goalies, and its really not any fault of any specific player. These guys just arent the right combination of guys.

Any thoughts to why B. Schenn only got 13:17 of ice time last night? Only 4th line was less.

This. ....and I'll say it again: Not enough support from the forwards coming back. When they do, one or two get caught, then their lack of team speed prevents them from erasing the mistake. One or two of those every game, and it ends up in the loss column. Homer has some serious work to......and if he signs any more aging vets or no movement clauses, then he needs to go. He's skating on some very thin ice.

The first two goals were offensive zone face-offs for Schenn-Vinny-Simmonds. The first goal was inexcusable. How do you allow a 3 on 2 off of an offensive zone face-off?

I think Berube was really trying to shield that line. He, simply, didn't trust them.

I'd tend to agree. Kimmo looked terrible last night, and as soon as he gave that puck up on the failed pass attempt on the PP, I KNEW Anaheim was going to score, just knew it. He needs his minutes scaled back I think...

Also, on a positive note, I thought Luke Schenn and Gus played well last night.

my first move as the new flyer gm would be to trade the Schenn Bros at the draft

If this team misses the PO's, I don't think he's going to be in any position to sign anybody. I suspect the most damage he could do now is trade more 2nd-round picks for more old, elephantine dmen in an act of desperation to save his job. I doubt Snider will sign off on anything more significant than that.

If it gets you one great D man on the right side of 30, yes. But I don't think that will be enough.

They seriously might want to consider moving Vinny if this year is another wash. I've got to think Toronto would be all over him.

Usually GMs have an idea of who they are trading for, not just who they are trading.
