That is what I'm implying. But man, it's fun to be very literal and take things at face value to spin them your way, isn't it?

not as fun as it is to have to sit on a train having a straight faced conversation with a fully grown man that "sidney crosby couldnt cut in in philly because hes not a blue collar, lunch pail type guy".

not that i have any interest in getting into a literary pissing match with you fellas, but when you say you have 7 dmen capable of playing the third pair, the way i interpret that is that you have 7 defensemen on the roster who can play the third pair. as in, they really cant play the first or second pairing. like if i said a baseball team has a pitching staff of 5 number 4 starters. i agree its an assumption, but i would assume that meant the team has 5 pitches who are of starter quality, but only of the bottom rung caliber.

He could cut it... It would just be his wrists. Just because a guy is a great player DOES NOT mean he will be loved in Philly... Mike Schmidt.

i mean this in both good attributes and bad. but, besides the fact that one still is a little better than the other, what exactly makes giroux any different than crosby?

and giroux is loved.

but yes, schmidt is a good example. i realize i wasnt around to personally experience whatever alienation his awkward and dour personality may have caused the fans, but the fact that he is not revered in this city is a (frank)ing crock of poop.

If somebody actually said that on a train, you should hit them in the face with a baseball bat.

Crosby is a supremely talented lunch pail guy. He works his ass off. If he has a weakness, he works on it until it's a strong point

Very well. How many defensemen on the Flyers' current roster are capable 1st or 2nd pairing defensemen, since you want to be so literal?

honestly, that goes up pretty low on the list of things that typically make me want to resort to violence on public transportation. being repeatedly sneezed on by grown adults who have no awareness or concept of others (and likely a job for that matter) actually tops it.

but yes. thank you. i know he is a finesse player in style, but you will not find a harder, more dedicated worker. like i said, when i go on rants on the philly style fan, its because the people i typically run into on a daily basis are of a totally different variety, and likely iq level, than you lot in here

coburn is the real prize of your defense. if he could hold only second pairing responsibilities, he would be a stud. the rest are too limited in a particular area of their game to be considered legitimate first pairing guys

Simply being on public transportation generally makes me want to resort to violence, unless there's an amusing drunk or two.

preaching to the choir man. its rough. but its better than trying to find parking/leaving my car unattended in north philly. its just the same story every day. on the commute down, its ridiculously packed, trains with not enough cars to facilitate the loads of people using them, and inexplicably late and shoddy service.

then during the commute home, if i stay late enough its essentially the same thing and you hit the rushhour crowd going the other way, or if i can head out early afternoonish, the train is less crowded but the people on it are goons. i guess it figures though. if youre just randomly riding the regional rail line between say 1 and 3, you usually dont have anything else going on.

So Mark Streit is on pace for 40 points this season. Considering he had 7 points in his first 23 games (giving him a 25 point pace to that point), I'd say he's definitely improved. When utilized right I think he can be a good piece in this D. As long as he's only asked to being secondary defensive scoring, and not the main guy, he should do just fine.

I only like driving into Philly if I'm going to the northeast or the stadium area. The PPA can kiss my ass

yeah. for growing up in the northeast all of my life, my experience with downtown/center city as been fairly limited. im not really a huge city person as it is. im not a huge crowds person, and would much rather prefer open air and trees. but, as far as commutes go, id have to say that mine is more annoying than it is actually difficult and i should just take the bad with the good.

im usually just scrambling to do work/catch a wink of sleep if possible on the train anyway, but the conversations im baited into are usually priceless. either random people asking for legal advice based purely on the text book laying in my lap, or if im wearing anything penguins related, usually a barrage of mindless rabble.

That happens to us. When we got into Philly, we're usually in Center City or South Philly. When I go into the Northeast, it's usually passing through on the way to my dad's in Warminster.

We do a museum membership every year, and we go at least once a month. We'll take PATCO to the 15/16th street stop, get out and walk to the Franklin Institute or the Museum of Natural History or Art Museum.

But on that damned train, the iPod is on and in my ears and I'm reading and avoiding all eye contact

Do you work at Temple? Oof, I lived in North Philly for two years when I went to Temple. Lived off-campus. Scary stuff. Car broken into 6 times, so I fully understand not wanting to bring your car down there.

I'm with Jsaq though... I live less than a mile from Ardmore station, and I'll friggin never get on public transportation. Awful.

you would think that would ward off the majority of it, but some of it still seeps through! especially if im reading and cant listen to music, ill just leave them in and feign listening to music. and some people still find a way to communicate.

and its not even like the ribbing about the pens. i get it. if im on the train wearing a crosby jersey, i fully expect and understand like a "pens suck" or "(frank) the pens". but somehow i always get someone intent on trying to have a legitimate conversation, and thats when the brain just hurts. mannnn pronger is gonna (frank) him up tonight bro. dude, youre just lucky we dont have CARBOMB anymore.

Steve mason is a capable backup goalie.
Sidney Crosby is a capable AHL player.
Alexander ovechkin is a capable second line winger.

I mean, I'm not implying that's their ceiling...I'm just randomly assigning them minimum capability roles.
