OK how about this then.

Kimmo is their best D man by a lot this year.

Say he agrees to play another season?

Yay or Nay, say for 4.75-5.25M for 1 year?

- Marc D

Depends on where they see Alt/Ghost/Lauridsen, if they keep Grossmann/Schenn/Coburn, Gustafsson's progression.

Too many factors. But I don't see him coming back. If he did, they keep their current group (Coburn/Grossmann/Schenn/Streit/Gustafsson (#5), then yes, but no more than $4M. If they think Gus is progressing into a top-4 and think Alt or Ghost is ready for a full-time spot, then no.

He used to be so nice and polite, until he got picked by the Flyers...now he's infected with Philthy Bullyitis.

He might be the Flyers best d-man, but on most teams he isnt much more then a 4. I say Nay. Either make some deals to get someone in here, or let the young guns come in and see what they can do.

I kind of hope they deal him at the deadline to a contender. The man deserves a legitimate shot at the cup. Not to mention I doubt he'll be back next year so they might as well get something for him.

Have you seen the Oilers defense try and exit a zone. They make the Flyers look like the Blackhawks
- PhillySportsGuy

Regarding the converstaion on the last forum about team speed, and my opinion that the Flyers lack it...

Someone mentioned teams like LA and Boston as sucessful teams that dont have much speed. My counter to that is look how many of thier forwards excell at defense. They are a defense first team, both teams. Not to mention they both have very strong defensive cores, and good goaltending. They dont need the speed as much.

The Flyers forwards outside of Read, Couturier, and Raffl are either marginal or poor defensively... and most of them are not very fast.

As much as this team has young players that are likely going to be good players, they just dont have right combination of players. I wouldnt mind seeing some lateral moves to shake-up the look of the team.

As the team is built now, the forwards will never be good enough defensively or fast enough to get back on defense to be a good defensive team. Nor do I think they will ever be good enough offensively to make up for thier lack of defensive skill (see penguins).

I think the only reason he was back this year was to play in the olympics.

That was me who mentioned the speed thing. I agree with you and I would like the forwards to give more of a commitment to defense. Guys like Giroux and Voracek should be able to play good, two-way hockey. They have the instincts, skill and intelligence to do it. A guy like Brayden Schenn was a tremendous two-way center in juniors.

My point is that a team can win without having great speed. It's about puck support, constant motion and creating passing lanes

Decent topic.

While imo you don't really need to be a speedy team to excel in this league, It really helps when you have that threat at your disposal. Having the knowledge that your d-men can also win some races, instead of purely relying on positioning also helps in initiating the play, and controlling the game. As opposed to simply being reactionary.

The D will have their hands full with the talent they will be facing in the next few games. Should be fun.

Supposedly Frederik Anderson starting in goal for the Ducks, not Hiller.

Back up goalie vs the Flyers, check.
