Next time really watch Grossman and pay attention to how many times he drops it behind our own net when you think he has time. Its astounding. - Just5

Getzlaff had a hell of a game, offense, defense, face offs.
Man I knew he was good but that was quite a performance.
He looked like he was doing it without much effort too. - Marc D
Getzlaf is putting together his best season this year. He doesn't really get as much coverage as other superstars around the league being in Anaheim but make no mistake he is a true superstar. |

It sounds like nearly every goal against came off a screen or deflection. You would think a D corps featuring Coburn, Grossmann and Schenn could at least do a better job of clearing things up in front of Mason. |

These days, touch a guy without the puck and you get some alone time in the box.
Maybe that's why so many coaches have guys prioritizing shot blocking over eliminating bodies on shots from the point now. |

I love all the hate Kimmo got last night for the turnover, and then (just about) no hate for the fact that Giroux unplugged his paddle on the back check.
Seriously, the guy who people claimed to be one of the best two way players watched a 2v1 develop while doing nothing to prevent or possibly negate it.
All of this while down by 1, on the man advantage, in the third period, and in the midst of a crazy playoff race (dont get it twisted, the race started three weeks ago). Theres really no excuse to not even attempt to get back. |

It was a hell of a game. Felt like a playoff game to me. Lots of physicality. Lots of scoring chances both ways. Both teams were up on their feet all night. In the end, a couple of bad bounces and the better team came out with the win. |

Its the truth. As a forward, you know to go down if you get touched in front. 15 years ago Johnny Vermont took a pounding in front of the net on a nightly basis and nothing got called. He made a living in there too. Put him in todays NHL and we'd have 10-15 pps a night... all assuming he would just fall to the ice to draw said penalties. |

Forget about the horrid PP for a chance, and take a look at how much Ducks rolled over the Flyers coming out of their own zone, immediately following the Ducks' faceoff win. This problem contributed to two goals last night because no Flyers forward was even close giving the D support.
How hard is it? |

When did we acquire Patrice Bergeron, Pavel Datsyuk, or get Mike Richards back?
As for Giroux, a guy considered "adequate" defensively, he was about 5 steps behind and pulled even before being absolutely gassed. At some point, legs won't go. I know we expect these guys to be machines, but it's just not the case. |

I'd include Getlaff in your list too.
What a two way game he played. |

I remember during the Ryan discussions certain people in here were running him down saying how much Ryan's numbers would improve playing with Giroux over Getzlaf blah blah blah.
Getzlaf is a beast.

Not once did he pull even, and not once did he show a true effort to get back there. I dont expect him to be a machine, but on a play like that you need to give everything you got.. And I dont think he did. That right there is the norm for Giroux. Most of the time with G he doesnt hall ass to get back, and when he does, its noticeable because he is usually playing that way all over the ice.
A few people here ABSOLUTELY claimed G was one of the better two way players in the game. I didnt say you were one of them, cant remember or care who they were. Just an observation.
EDIT: Now I should say there were a lot of problems with that play, and its not G's fault alone, but he was a part of the problem as well. There were two other possible shorthand rushes that didnt manifest prior to Kimmos terrible give away. It was bound to happen at some point.. |

Getzlaf is one hell of a player. He does EVERYTHING at an elite level. He wins faceoffs he scores he is one of the best passers in the game and he is a physical specimen. |

Slimey looking (frank)er
I guess when your team is sucking like this every year, you have to find some way to vent. Good luck with that.
