It's a chicken and the egg argument. Pens PK is good because Fleury has been good shorthanded, and Fleury SH SV% is good because he has a good PK unit in front of him.

I am going to do a little more research on the topic.

The eye test tells me we are good at keeping shots out of the 'house' lanes.

Yeah I think Adams is done after this season. What about Jordin Tooto? Is he still around, could be a decent pick up on the 3rd/4th line for cheap that could crash the net and bodies.

I don't think it's as much about production as it is the eye test with Adams and he's been failing it for a while now.

Agreed. I can think of numerous times he has busted out of the zone short handed only to be caught from behind or lose the puck. Anyone with a little skill or speed could have turned it into a scoring chance.

Plus, there have been quite a few more times that I've noticed his inability to hit the net, clear the zone, or move the puck out of the defensive zone has lead to a scoring chance for the other team.

And this opinion comes from someone who has appreciated his game for years. But, I think age finally caught up to him this year.

He does average the 3rd most ice time among Ducks Dmen after Fowler and Beauchemin. Certainly did not think that would be the case.

I believe he's with Detroit and makes too much money for a 4th liner. I think Detroit has tried to trade him and found no takers.

He's actually in Grand Rapids now with his $1.9 million contract... I'll pass on him every day and twice on Sunday.

Zatkoff with the start tonight... Interesting move against one of the top teams. But with their trouble scoring lately, and it gives Zatkoff a chance to beat his former team, makes sense.

Bylsma just giving him the start against his old team. Hoping he wants to show them they should have kept them I'd guess. And they struggle to score.

OK never mind then. That's what happens when you quit following everyone else.

I still think the Letang mega deal is highly unlikely and something like Cammi would be more realistic. I think CGY owes us after a 1st and 2 prospects for the shell of what Iginla was.

Makes sense. He hasn't played a ton lately with their days off and Fleury started the last game...which I thought Zatkoff would've.

I got home and the first thing I heard was I have PTA type meeting to go to this evening I didn't know about. Kind of glad it starts at 10:30 so I'll actually get to watch it...and have some fine refreshments.

The real issue with the Flyers was the signing of Bryzgalov, the subsequent trading of JvR for Schenn, while allowing Carle and Jagr to walk while waiting on Weber/Parise/Suter. That was just a year's worth of a cluster(frank).
- jmatchett383

No the real issue is your meddling owner, from there everything else has had a trickle down effect on the team.

It's hard on the fans I'm sure.

yeah... I'd like to see him bought out or even kept as a 13 forward (even though Bylsma couldn't bear to scratch him).

I know Glass has had his ups and downs here, but a 4th line next season of Glass - Vitale - Sill isn't too bad. Enough speed and abrasiveness, and solid defensively.

- rival22

I think Sill deserves a spot next year. I'd like to see Vitale return too. No on Tanner Glass. If he played every game like the Dallas game, I'd say hell yeah, sign him up. Unfortunately, he's MIA most of the time. Adams should be gone too, but Dan will surely want him back.

I think so too. He's good in the faceoff circle and he's a pretty good penalty killer too. Doesn't mind dropping the gloves if needed. I'm undecided on Glass. At this point it's easy to see him back for about the same contract(maybe slightly less) because of the lack of NHL bottom 6th depth we have currently. Adams has a year left on his deal so I doubt he's sent anywhere or bought out. But once his deal is up he might just retire.

Good column on Matt Niskanen by Pierre LeBrun on ESPN.com

http://espn.go.com/nhl/ga...enguins-los-angeles-kings

I really like him... not just how he's been playing, but he's always been very honest in his interviews and seems very level headed.

A couple highlights:
"This is the best I've played in my career, on a night-to-night basis. I'm finally to a point where I feel like I'm a consistent, reliable defenseman," Niskanen said. "Certainly, about a month ago, the injuries that we had presented an opportunity where I played a lot, and that helped my confidence. It's been going well. It took me a while, I think, to develop and figure out exactly what it takes to be a consistent defenseman."

"It's a good situation to be in, really," said Niskanen of his pending UFA status. "I'll let my agent take care of that stuff. But for now, I'm just focusing on the season. Certainly, I like it here a lot, I think I fit well here. I'd like to stay as long as I can. But there's more to it than that, I understand that. Pittsburgh has several good young defensemen prospects, so who would argue if they want to go that route. It's a matter of what they want to do. I'll just play as best I can, I'll be thrilled to stay on but if not, we'll see what happens."

"At that point, my confidence was at an all-time low," said Niskanen, drafted in the first round, 28th overall, in 2005. "I wasn't playing much [in Dallas], the coach had zero confidence in me, it wasn't a good situation for me. They basically just gave me away. I'm thankful Pittsburgh gave me a chance to play my way onto it. They helped me out a lot. Since that trade, I've been just building and building, and the Penguins have helped me along the way. Big time."
