He's a leader and a great guy to have on your team. Guy's worth every penny. I know he's had a history of injuries, regardless of that. I think any team would except this guy with open arms.
- mattsox

for how much?

every team would love to have chris kelley too but at the right price.

ok Ek, what kind of contract do you give Callahan to stay in NY?
- Fountain-San

Simple: League max. Anything less is highway robbery for a spiritual leader glue guy such as Callahan.

Glen Sather is the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence GM.

He always thinks bringing in outside players are going to bring his team to the next level and can never see value in a player who's already on his team. He seriously builds his teams like a kid playing NHL 2014.

Wait...you mean the big $$ aquisitions of:

Scott Gomez
Chris Drury
Gaborik
Brad Richards and Rich Nash aren't paying dividens?

The latter two have been OK, but not for what their getting paid.

Because he's over rated.

I remember being told he's better than Rick Nash

if he is the true heart and soul of the rangers, then he'll take somewhat of a hometown discount which allows him to stay with the team while addressing some of the other needs that will accompany the next off-season. if he won't budge then...goodbye!

Because within 2 years they would be playing a middle 6 grinder $6mill a season to play on their 3rd line

nope. sather is going to to go outside the organization and let this gem, already in hand, slip through the cracks.

The guys on pace for like 45 pts, the Rangers could use $6mill to pay a real powerforward or a top 6 Center to round out their top 6 better.

Everyone says that Callahan is this "great leader", but I think that's only because of the NY reputation he is getting.

Well he has led them to under achieve anually since he's been captian. Arent they considered contenders about every year and always seem to just be mediocre?

If I was a team like the Oilers, I'd definitely want a player like Callahan. It's not like they don't have the young players to move for him.

If the Rangers could get Yakupov for Callahan, Sather would drive Callahan to Edmonton himself.

This has me laughing like a school girl.

Cally is a heart and soul player who does anything to win. 7 years at 6 million per for a guy who has 1 50 point season is crazy!!! If you could trade him and get good value do it, if he is not resigning. All this talk basically assures Cally is gone if he makes to free agency, If you could get him done 5 years for at most 6 million do it.

He has been injured a lot recently, so it has been hard for him to get into the flow. My big question... could a player like Cally flourish in AV system?

Exactly.

On another note this has to be the first time I've ever seen Ek bash a team publicly for their strategy which probably means Sathers got the right idea.

I like Callahan and understand the "more than points" argument but at some point you have to draw the line for what you're willing to pay a guy who doesn't get 60 points.

Great, you just doomed him to come to the USA Burke/ Conroy show where we overpay to make the floor and send them cammy.

I also cant help but think Callahan would be more willing to work with Sather had Sather handled the Dubinsky, Stepan, or Lundqvist negotiations in a more honorable manner. Callahan's stance has to be a lot more firm based on how he has seen Sather treat his teammates.

I have seen many crazy ideas/rumors in the last decade covering the NHL, but the rangers even pondering moving Callahan truly tops insanity.

Ek... May I remind you of this:

"Ovechkin to the Preds: Nashville would send 2 #1's, Dumont, Zidlicky and Suter (possibly Weber depending on who you talk to ) to Washington for Ovechkin and Kolzig"
