Pretty sure Kotska would have, or Brookbank.
- golfingsince

Q likes Brookbank and Kostka because they can play forward, not well but they can do it.

Stanton still would have been the best choice to keep and platoon with Rozy. Stanton was on a 2 year $550K deal, you can't beat that.

I was surprised Stanton got waived, he was given a day with the Cup and was starting to be pimped but the Blackhawks marketing machine.

Yeah hilarious hey. Some Hawk fan put it on the previous thread last night when Calgary got up 4-2.

Thank you, everyone knows that any defenseman at any level can play forward. Does not work the other way around. It does not make them a good forward, but they can do it....

Al pointed out, that it appears Q was impressed with Kostka and one of them had to go. He did not want to risk losing Kostka and they figured best bet was to risk losing Stanton. That is more like what really happened.

It's a cap friendly ploy and keeps the 666 crew from getting press box splinters in their $500 suits.

Stanton may be the unpublicized strategic error of the offseason.

Q liked Stanton and then got a hardon for Kostka in the preseaon and at which point he and Stanbo exposed Stanton to waivers thinking he wouldn't get claimed. Didn't work.

Or the team didnt mind if he got claimed because he wasnt all that great and isnt at all the reason the Hawks are slumping right now?

Seriously, the kid has played solid D all season long. What more can you ask for from a bottom pairing guy. He's also scrapped, chipped in a bit offensively. I'm really surprised he was exposed especially knowing your history of needing lower level D help.

So why wasn't Stanton kept with the big club ?
- golfingsince

It probably came down to the way he shoots. Seems kinda asinine if you ask me. Though why Kostka was signed will forever remain a mystery.

We had enough left-hand shooting defenceman as it was and Stanton's not Scott Stevens. I never lost a second of sleep over that move.

Brookbank has actually played pretty well for what he is, a 6-7th Dman.
