Yeah, for sure. But really, every passionate fanbase has it's overreactions.
- Nucker101

The problem with overreactions is that most just want change for the sake of change which is rarely a good thing.

They were/are both seasons in which the club has been handcuffed financially. It should come as no surprise to any fan that saw the cap drop that this has happened.
- golfingsince

Gillis played a part in that though, and other teams have the same cap to work with. But it's hard to know for sure...who knows what would have happened if Booth was able to be bought out and if Detroit matched MG's asking price and Edler got traded.

Meh, with this core, I think one of the guys has to be moved this summer(by core, I'm including the NTC guys that are top 4 D or top 6 F). If this team had one of the better cores of young players coming up then you could afford to stay patient, but with an older team/core and a not so strong farm system...you kind of have to make a few significant moves.

You should read the boards of other team's fanbases during a losing streak, it's all the same IMO.

It's not like a reset can take place within an offseason or two.

It's not a rebuild on speed—it can take just as long, it's just not as drastic.

You guys all laugh at "the process" like it's some cliché, but that's exactly what it is...

This season was always a throw-away.

- Fosco

You are absolutely right Fosco. We all knew this team was not going to contend. My biggest concern is that I can't figure out what Gillis's options are to improve the situation.

The biggest problem that we have is the definition of core. Most team have 5-8 guys are core and the rest are available for trade to improve the team. Canucks have 11-12 guys as core that makes only bottom 6 and 3rd pairing D as trade bait. Unfortunately Milbury is no longer a GM that will take 3rd and 4th liners for top 6 return. We need to redefine our core and make players expendable if they are not part of the team trajectory.

I have to agree, and trading a away a young guy like Tanev or trading away a 1st rounder instead of one of the core guys is not the way to go. Gotta keep guys like Kassian/Tanev/Horvat/Shinkaruk/Corrado since this team needs to build up a decent pool of young talent since right now they're not an elite team. The teams with the best cap management usually have multiple young player son bargain deals so having a strong group of young players is a must.

I'm all for a re-tool, not a rebuild. The smart move is to trade away a replaceable asset at the TDL for a pick/prospect at the TDL this year IMO.

I don't see a lot of options until the summer, unfortunately.

Even then, MG is gonna be in tough...

Trading an Edler for some help up front and buying out Booth would be a good start. Use that feed up money to sign a decent forward and try to actually ice 3 capable lines. Evander Kane and ROR are pipedreams, and highly unlike moves but a guy like Brayden Schenn maybe in an Edler deal would be ideal if Philly is willing to consider.

So if he is in the hot seat who the hell do they bring in to replace him? Is there a better guy out there right now?

I need to let this season play out before I jump off the MG train. Good and bad he has done more good than bad and that is a fact not an opinion.

Exactly. I wouldn't be so concerned if the Core wasn't having such a bad year. Burrows is goal less, the twins are looking at season low numbers in 10 years, Kesler will be lucky to get 25 goals. The "top 4" D men have all had inconsistent seasons so far.

On the positive side Tanev, Stanton, Kassian, Santorelli and Richardson have all been pleasant surprises.

Edler has zero value, he'd have to be packaged with picks to get anything in return.

I'm being realistic. Who would want a 5million dollar dman who's -20 on the year?

Guys are talking about blowing it up and building around Horvat ...he hasn't done poop. We'd be better off building around Kassian. Give him some line mates and he'd score 40.

He has value, but it's definitely taken a hit.

Horvat projects to be a nice 2LC so he's a nice piece for the future but I doubt he'll be a franchise player unless he exceeds expectations big time. As GS mentioned, if Bieksa has a decent amount of more value than Edler and is willing to move then I'd deal him.

Only thing is Colorado traded Stewart and Shattenkirk for a similar player in Johnson. So here's to hoping they trade us ROR and Elliott for Edler.

I'd target the Islanders. Snow seems like a complete moron.
