He is not big or fast
- VANTEL

Don't you think Callahan is exactly what this team needs. That tough Center who can get you 50 - 60 pts a season? I like him a lot. I don't think he is worth 6.5mill a year but what else are we going to do.

They threatened to sign him to an offer sheet but Bos always said they would match it so I think thats why they offered more than what the offer sheet compensation would have been. I think the compensation would have been 1, 2, 3 so instead he offered
1, 1,2.

Seguin is better this year.
- A_SteamingLombardi

Don't get me wrong I love Seguin and would take him over phil easily. All I'm saying is over the last 3 years Kessel is a top 5 - 7 scorer in the NHL. We can trash him all we want but we would kill to have a guy like that on our team just scoring goals.

It's crazy to me how fast the game is in the eastern conference

How weird is it to have an outdoor game on a Thursday night?

Too many one dimensional players. We already have one of those, and his name is Kesler.

No it wasn't. I just looked it up. They traded 2 1sts and a 2nd for him. The compensation for a guy signed to a salary of 5.5 mil is 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

Soo you would rather have Kessel then Seguin, Hamilton and a prospect. If your answer isn't yes then it was a bad trade

Burke would not have signed him to an offer sheet, that's why he made the trade. If you remember how pissed Burke was after Penner signed with the Oilers he didn't believe in RFA offer sheets. Kessel however said he was done negotiating and would sign an offer with another club.

The funny thing is, the Leafs nearly had Kessel for Kaberle and a pick the year prior but there was a disagreement about what pick it should be.

Right now when you attach the players to the deal of course I would take Seguin all day. But your telling me right now if your the canucks GM you wouldnt trade 2 1sts and a 2nd for a top 20 scorer in the NHL?

Toronto trade 2 gaurenteed lottery picks(a given if you looked at their roster) for a young scorer. It would be like buffalo trading 2 1sts for Eberle. Bad deal without question.

You have your opinion which is fair. Id trade 2 lottery picks easily for a top 10 scorer.

A better assessment would be someone like Nashville, Winnipeg, NJ. They are ranked 23 - 25. This is what the leafs were when they made the Kessel deal. They regressed and burke made an error in judgement. But If I am any lottery team and I can get a top 20 scorer who is 21 years old I will easily deal 2 1sts and a 2nd for that.

id do it in a heartbeat

kesler is exactly the type of 2c this team could use. so good both ways. physical, a total azzhole, great skater etc etc

tanev isnt the dominant guy we want as an ender. but as an addition, he's a very good depth guy. solid both ways and young. he'd be in our top 4 right now and still easy top 6 going forward

- hugefemale dog77

Tanev would be a top two D on the Oilers

Yes Kessel is a top 5-7 scorer but also a minus player for the 5 yrs in Toronto.

I'd trade 2 1sts and a second for Evander Kane lol.

plus minus is a so so stat. He was a + 23 when he was in boston. That has a lot to do with the team. Don't get me wrong the dude will never be the 2 way stud a kesler would be but he is paid to score goals. He has more than done that.

Exactly and kane is not in the same class as Kessel yet. He might be and its the risk you have to take for a young potential stud.

Mike Gillis is getting roasted on Twitter right now

He sent out his first tweet in 6 months wishing Richard Sherman luck at the Superbowl. Everyone is saying stuff like: Shouldn't you be focusing on Hockey? Or, you should be inspiring your team not some football player you met last year. Just not as kindly as I have recapped it here.

Chiarelli was the GM, and as far as I know him and Burke are friends. Ironically, they ended up trading a bunch to get Kaberle a couple of years later or maybe it was the following season.

I remember that kaberle deal. Probably the best deal burke did but that 1st they got was wasted on some bum they drafted.
