The future looks bright. I just think you guys need a couple experienced defensemen.
- Orpik44

I think we try and address that through free agency or potential draft pick/prospect type trades at the draft.

To move any roster forwards would really hurt this team moving forward. Like most teams, they will target Girardi & Niskanen.

But I would be happy looking at second tier guys available like Nikitin, Stralman or older vets in Robidas or Morris

I think RoR will be between 5.5-6 for sure if we do resign him, if talks struggle but the Avs resign him we could see a 6 mil deal for a shorter term but if they go well you might see something such as 5.8 for a longer term.

Stastny I could see between 5.4-5.6 ish on a long term deal only with a NTC. Stastny is most closely comparable to Thornton and if you prorate it for points its works our about right.

- Meeqsb

I think Stastny scratches the Avs back with a new contract thats cap friendly if he gets that NTC. I think he appreciated management coming out to start the season to say we are not trading him so put that to rest.

5 year deal?

We could use 1 or 2. Bigras looks like the real deal and if any of Barrie/Elliot/Siemens turn out well then the Avs should be set for a while. Hejda will need be replaced but besides the 1 or 2 holes on D the rest is just tinkering with the line up however Roy wants it. Duchene and Landy taking those deals really set up this team to be in a good spot.

Although I am REALLY worried about this years trade deadline, poop could hit the fan pretty quick and this team could be very different by March 5th

have you looked in the Habs thread lately? That credible reporter who said we wanted Bourque is now saying Habs called for Mcginn for Bourque and we offered PAP for him instead.

Even if the Avs give out:

Stast: 5.6
Ror: 6
Mcginn: 2.5
Barrie: 2
Varly: 6.5

They would STILL have 13mil in Cap space with a full line up similar to the one we have this year. The only other player past that point who would need to be considered for a raise would be EJ and Mackinnon who we can guess will do a bridge or 6 like duchene would still leave us with 7mil to play around with not including the Cap raising or the losses/replacement of Hejda(3.2), Tangs (3.5), PA (4).

Avs are looking to be in a pretty good spot

I honestly think he is just covering his own ass at this point. I know he is a credible reporter but at the end of the day if Adater calls BS it is probably BS.

I am not saying teams weren't talking but certainly nothing serious has come of it, they have been shopping Bourque for months.

Yeah at the beginning of the year Roy and Sakic were super quick to say Stastny wouldn't be traded and was here to stay. That may have proven to be a stroke of brilliance on their part really connecting him to this team.

They are straight shooters so if they say they wont trade a player they wont, and all through the year they gushed over him and his leadership. You know they think of his as a vital part and was never a trade asset.

I feel pretty confident after this article that they will come together in a deal.

Roy and Sakic are VERY smart, so while I believe that they would like to keep both, I dont doubt for a second that they have been VERY proactive in feeling out deals for both if they ever get the feeling they wont be able to resign them.

if they could start a bidding war and get an extremely attractive package that benefits this team just not now but for the future, they for sure would pull that deal.

Maybe but you dont just make deals like that lightly. Trading either one of those players would have a huge impact on this team for years to come.

We need for Duchene to have actually set linemates at some point. We've seen him gel and jive with player after player but only for short periods before they are traded or get injured (Mueller, Fleishman, Downie, Parenteu, etc.)

If RoR signs longterm he will be his winger.

RoR - Duchene- _____
Landy - MAckinnon - _____
_____- Stastny - _____

Will be one hell of an offensive core. Hell if we are lucky add Talbot to that list as he is pure gold.

I understand the thought of "Hometown Discount" This is also going to be Stastny's last chance to cash in.

I cant see him taking anything less than what he is making now, even a little raise.
He will get 7 on the open market if he hits it.
I can see 7yr $49MM-$52MM

Never underestimate July 1.
Clarkson got 5+
Leino got 4+

No way he makes that or near that with the Avs if he wants to resign, they will pay eachother fairly. Most he will make is 6m to match Duchene's he wont sign for more

also super exiting to hear the news this morning that Coors is pushing hard for a Denver outdoor game.

If there was every a time to update our uniforms, an outdoor game could be good way to get the mountain striping on the bottom back into them

Agreed, which is why I cannot see him in Colorado next year. We have heard many times through the years players wanting to stay, and then leave for money, in all sports.

They are in it for the money. Not one person on their last big pay-day is going to walk away from upwards of $8-9MM on the table.

I know Avs fans like him and want him to stay.

Again IMO, I would think it would be better for Colorado to move him for an established NHL top 4 D-man.

You really are making assumptions with him as "A Money Hungry Sports Athlete"
He says he likes it in Colorado playing for Roy and Sakic, he wants to win here, he is recently married with his wife being local and owning a business in town, he grew up in Denver. There are many factors in while he would want to stay vs going to a differet place and it all back firing on him. He has money already coming off an already healthy contract, so him sticking around for a few milllion dollars less on a long term contract with more than likely the secuirty of a NTC probably isnt the end of the world.

He could very much just pick up his bags and leave, but there is a very strong possability he resigns with the Avs. Going to the playoffs and now winning with this team will change a lot

Neither Team would want that deal. Kadri is only Meh, Franson is brutal most games, Reilly is the only promising piece but he doesnt help the Avs now,

Use this for example as today.

Andrew Gross
‏@AGrossRecord
Callahan says he wants to remain a Ranger. Knows there are going to be persistent rumors until his future is settled.

He also wants to get paid for what he has done.
I understand the whole hometown guy, hometown wife sentiment, i really do. I just dont believe athletes for a second when they say this. They all do.

Can he prove me wrong, sure. But I am not going to hold my breath waiting for him to do so.

I dont think he will either. He is going to go to a team that has a chance to win and a team willing to spend the money on him.

IE) NYR after thy buyout Richards.

Like i said before i think it is in the AVS best interest to move him for an established Dman.

If the Avalanche keep Stastny it will be to keep him as a 2nd line center. Why would the Avs then trade O'Reilly who has proven that he can play very well on the wing on both ends of the ice for another young center with good potential that Toronto has fallen out of favor with?

Do you expect Kadri to beat out Duchene, Stastny or MacKinnon for a center spot or expect him to move to the wing and hope it goes half as well as it did for O'Reilly?

Except that you said he wouldn't take a discount with Colorado to win. If you now say he'll go to a contender...well I hate to say it but teams like the Blackhawks and Blues aren't contenders because of bad over-priced contracts. They lock up their core to pretty good dollar values similar to what the Avs have been doing.
