Jake Allen is the #1 goalie in the AHL, & is property of the St. Louis Blues...
If you can somehow finagle a Miller sign-and-trade with the Blues, Allen would be a perfect pairing to split time with Enroth next season.
Both STL goalies (Halak & Elliot) are upcoming UFAs, so next year they can better accommodate a Miller sized salary. But not right now.
Now now if the Sabres trade would trade Miller and be willing to eat a decent portion of his salary... Jake Allen, Halak, & a 1st rd pick sounds good to me! |

Sorry. This is ridiculous. Tarasenko won't be traded. Not because he is Brett Hull re-incarnate, but because he is their top prospect and is already contributing at the NHL level. It is about perception. That type of player NEVER gets traded. I defy you show me one example of a team trading their top prospect without getting a top prospect back.
Trades that make sense.
Miller for Rattie, Halak and conditional 2nd (1st based on playoff success). Halak then gets flipped at the deadline for another 2nd.
-I think this would be ideal for the Sabres, since the system is short on scoring wingers.
Miller for Carrier or Schmaltz or Vanelli, Halak and 1st. Halak then flipped.
-Probably not what Murray wants, but may end up being the best offer. Mid level prospect, a 1 and a 2 (after Halak is dealt). Not ideal, but a pretty good haul for a rental.
Miller, Moulson for Neuvirth, Erat, Burakovsky and Washington's first in 15. Erat flipped for more picks prospects.
-This deal only/works for the Sabres if it happens early enough that Erat can be showcased for a few weeks before the deadline and flipped. Neuvirth then becomes the bridge goaltender with Enroth until the Sabres can find their new franchise Goalie in '15
Miller for Niemi, and a pick. Maybe a 2 in '15 that becomes a 1 if Miller resigns. Niemi then traded to Edmonton for something.
-I know this is a stretch, but San Jose is a realistic landing spot for Miller long term, so they may be willing to deal an established player for a deep playoff run this year, and a head start on negotiating with Miller for next year. Maybe Niemi gets packaged with McNabb/Pysyk and picks to get one of Edmonton's forwards. Maybe straight up for Gagner. Who knows.
This is all just speculation, and all for fun. But I think any of these proposals is more realistic than a deal involving Tarasenko. Just my opinion. - truthbluth

Jake Allen is the Blues backup next year, he is not going to be traded for Miller. |

And just wanted to point this out:
What's Miller won?
CCHA - 0 (Led Spartans to Frozen Four once. Lost to North Dakota in the semis)
AHL - 0 (Lost in division finals)
NHL - 0 (2 Conference Finals appearance)
Olympics - 0 (Lost in championship game)
For all of his accomplishments, he's yet to close escrow. By no means is he a "lock" to win a Cup, let alone get the Blues deeper in the playoffs over Halak. |
