Right. Then they held another olympics in the same country where the biggest terrorist attack of all time occured, less than a year prior.
- 1979AD

Well, most venues were already under construction.

It's also a lot easier to smuggle something into russia than the USA

And that Leafs article about Being GM by Huddle.

Wasn't the Atlanta bomb set off by some American nut job?

The issue with any religious or political terrorist attack on the games is that whoever is responsible will face the wrath of just about every nation at the games, not just the Russians.

Gotta say the odds of something happening over in Russia compared to say USA has to be higher.

That was a brutal piece by Huddle. Let's be honest. Was really interested to see how the line up and trades would shake up but he hand picked a joke rumour, and two or three others and ignored 500,000 other trades that could have been considered.

Just saying this Dagestan bomb and the 'black widow' on the loose aren't threats and security risks any greater than what has been dealt with in earlier games.
- 1979AD

The issue is that those issues existed in that region previous to this. The olympic has now given them an audience.

Well, if the olympics are gonna push that crap, they should at least try to reflect it in their actions. Or make it look like they do. Going to Russia is the furthest thing from, though.
- Feeling Glucky?

The IOC is about one thing, and one thing only: taking as much money as they can from others.

So going to Russia is the perfect thing to do.

Think about it for a moment: the best players in the world are going to take a two-week pause from their jobs to go play a tournament.

They won't get paid a cent.

Their respective ice hockey federations will get two bags of peanuts.

The arenas will be paid for by Russia (not the Russian Olympic Federation).

Yet they will charge a jillion rubles per ticket.

Ever wonder where that money goes?

I don't mind them... but at the same time, don't let the lack of opinion lead you to believe they're unbiased. Just picking and choosing which facts to present can completely change the story.

Basically, if you hear a story that interests you... you gotta do research, looking at a bunch of different news sources to form a proper opinion.

Which is hard to do for everything... which is why more people should just STFU about the things they don't understand.

It would. But when dealing with the Olympics, every nation is there and being represented. So they all would, in some way, take it personally and vow revenge or holding those responsible and accountable. At the very least, those who suffered casualties of it's own citizens representing their country at the games.

But this would also be the biggest stage for them to do something. Let's hope nothing happens.
