Yes, but guys aren't allowed to trip or hack or punch between whistles either, so a call can still be made.
- aminnes

True, but if they call those there'll be about a dozen more calls per game.

Do whatever they want, but for the love of Jeebus, be consistent...

Yeah, that was a justifiable penalty to take. You just can't give the puck away to that guy in that situation.
- Leeman4Gilmour

It was weak, I didn't even see a hold at all....

Maybe my blue filters removed it, but I didn't see anything wrong there...

What do you guys think of Brooks Orpik (assuming he doesn't resign) or Tom Gilbert as a #2 and turf Gunnarsson?
- gravyface

Orpik is Gleason upgraded. I'd take it.

But Gilbert over Gunnar?

Gunnar isn't that bad. He's the type of guy we love to hate, then finds success elsewhere. We have a nasty history of letting those guys walk.

(frank), I would literally take any of you guys for Gunnar. He's (frank)ing terrible. He's been in the league how long?? And he cannot at all ever clear the (frank)ing puck. Moreso on the PK which I always fun. Couldn't give two poops if he blocks a shot. He'll give it right back to the dman anyway. He is poop.

Looks like Detroit is finally going to miss the playoffs. All of the talk about them knocking Boston out of the top slot in the Northeast was just that.....talk. They're stars are starting to break down and their defense and goaltending is suspect. C'est dumage!

If we could have gunnar at 5/6 wed be much better.

Have they tried him with gleason? Thatd be one reaponsible pairing.

Wow these refs... Where do they find these guys? I understand its nice to give homeless people jobs but damn itleast make sure they know what hockey is... Damn... Sorry for the rant but man, does anyone remember how refs were 10 years ago? I know it's not theyre fault, it's these ridiculously useless rules that are being integrated. Like I feel bad for the refs having to make calls that shouldn't be against the rules but technically are but Man it just grinds my gears.

Oh no, I'm not advocating that call just saying calls between whistles do happen...

Gilbert's having a career year (after struggling to find a contract, he's got something to prove), but he's basically an older version of Gardiner without the potential.

This roster can't take another defensively mediocre defenseman.

Remember when all they had to do was show up to destroy the East? They were going to show how hockey is played in the West on our lowly Eastern Conference teams. It was that much more harder for the Leafs to make the playoffs because they automatically lost that spot because the Wings were now in the East.

We need more guys to take care of their end, not to put up points.

No, but Phaneuf really needs a better #2 if we're to compete in the playoffs. How's Girardi defensively? THN says:

Assets: Owns good size, shot-blocking ability and defensive awareness. Is also a decent puck-moving blueliner who gets out of danger in his own zone with aplomb. Can log impressive minute totals. A durable player, he plays through injuries.
Flaws: Lacks consistency on offense and in the hitting department, which prevents him from raising his game to an elite level. Could stand to use his 6-1, 206-pound frame more in order to be even more effective in shutting opposing forwards down.
Career Potential: Big-minute shutdown defenseman.

I wonder if they become sellers this year.

If Datsyuk walks away for nothing (2 more years, I think?), they're (frank)ed.

When I looked at it, at the start of the season, I figured that at best, they'd get a lower playoff seed, if they where to be healthy. Now that they're not, they're dead in the water. There's too many streaky and average teams that'll make a run ahead of the Wings. They where good a couple of years back, but last year, they barely got in, having to get in on the last weekend of the year. They where relatively healthy then too!

Reffing is hard but the weak calls still shouldn't happen, at the speed and level these guys play at you just have to tell yourself - "nothing marginal", it seems these guys are thinking - "oh no make up call, oh no make up call", and then it just turns into a mess.

I agree. Rielly and Gardiner are the offensive guys going forward. Surround them with 4 defensively responsible types.

If anybody should be moved, it's Franson. Rielly and Gardiner still have potential and can cover his offensive production. Franson is never going to figure out the defensive side of the game at this point.

They won't let Datsyuk walk, they'll resign him and try to add through free agency. Detroit used to be a place many UFA's wanted to go to, but no more. Looks good on Krusty the Klown to miss the playoffs, after bolting the Trojan's.

Yup.

Phaneuf, Gleason, Gunnar and..... Girardi?

I know that if he comes available I'd take Niskanen which then makes gunnar expendable
