My money would be on Snider letting Homer finish the year out -- then fire him right after the last game is played.

The only way I see Homer saving his job is them making some kind of run in the PO's... barely making it and getting ousted immediately probably wouldn't even save him.

- Tomahawk

I don't know about the last part. If they start playing better (i.e. playing like a cohesive team) and just come up against a better opponent (say, oh, I don't know, Pittsburgh) and just lose in a long, hard series but not due to level of intesnity, maybe he saves it. But if they squeak in and are soundly pummeled (a la Columbus vs. Detroit), then yea.

Do we let him stay either way? His tenure has been hills and valleys. Not consistent enough in the improvement department for me..

Also, I'm failing to see a clear vision of how he wants to build the team.

Or, if he can make a move that dramatically improves the team in the foreseeable future.

If he can pull off another Coburn for Zhitnik, that should earn him a gold star.

Then we can all complain about it 2 years from now.

Oh goody a trade that wreaks of desperation. 50 cents on the dollar.

How often to teams make trades when everything is peachy?

It's actually been a fairly steady climb (minus the 08/09 tough loss to the SC champs in Round1) from dead last, to ECF, to SCF, and then a steady decline (ECSF 4 games, ECSF 5 games, miss).

I think if they make the playoffs, Homer gets another full year, regardless of how well they do once they make it.

So how did we go from Stanley cup finals then get worse every year since? Not good enough, IMO.

If Homer is fired then the best time to do it would be after the deadline, that way Hextall has plenty of time to game plan his moves before the end of the season.

I dunno... think the late run and shortened season saved Homer's bacon once already... and Snider opened the checkbook for him this past summer. I don't think Snider's going to be feeling very charitable unless there's a strong sign that Homer should stick around. A first-round ouster doesn't strike me as a compelling display.

We came up against a buzzsaw from hell in Boston, then made a series of moves (Richards/Carter/Bryz) that sort of paid off for a bit, and then last year happened. That's why I think Holmgren needs to at least make the POs this year.

Their firing policy is to let go staff
3 games into the season, remember?

My ultimate issue is im confused as to what kind of team he wants to build.

My guess is that Snider would view making the playoffs as progress over last year.

The cap will go up, giving them more room to spend.

That, and the bit of playoff revenue from even two home games, would be enough for another year, I think.

What if they play a team, lose in 7 games on a Double OT goal, and that team goes on to win the Cup playing no more than 5 games in any other round? That's actually a damn good showing, to me.

How likely is that scenario, lol. But yeah, maybe if that were the case, and they pushed the B's or the Pens to 7 and lost on a fluke goal/bad call/act of god, then yeah, maybe Homer gets another year.

The answer has always been: emulate whichever team won the Cup the previous season, unless it's the Red Wings, because Flyers don't European.

I think this is absolutely true. There is no identity to this team. No real strength on offense or defense.

My question is, does Snider realize that part of this is because of Prongers injury, part of it is because of Sniders insistance to get Bryz.. which may or may not have caused the Firck and Frack trades depending on who you talk to.. and a part of it is on Homer for over-reaching in FA.

I can lay 1/3rd of the blame on Homer. Maybe half. I'm not going to kill Snider for wanting to win. We all want to win. But I dont think that he should fire the GM for what is partially his fault and partially poor luck.

I still think Homer has what we need to turn this team around, he just needs more time. More time to get the right guys through the draft, and more time to find the right trades that don't screw the team.

Even if there are no takers and none with a NTC/NMC are willing to do it? Also, which of our players are the "old" ones?
